 Those of us who are severely handicapped in the creativity department have no choice but to cop….I mean to be inspired by the work of others. Ben Goossens gets the credit for the original escalator idea.

Thank you so much for the generous score and the flattering comments. I never thought this image would do so well. I had a different idea in mind but my model could not make it, so it had to be plan B.

I shot the escalator at a local shopping center, luckily just before a security guard politely pointed out that it was forbidden to ‘take pictures of the premises with a professional camera’. Then back to a park close to my house for a picture of the sky.

The rest was all Photoshop using the usual tools. The hardest part was drawing the silhouette; this was first drawn as a path using the pen tool, my Aiptek drawing tablet was a lot of help. I used old pictures of Michael Jackson as models. The path was then converted to a selection and filled with black paint using the paint bucket. Then I refined the edges using a semi-soft brush and added some hair and other details to the best of my limited ability. All of the ‘details’ seemed to lump together upon resizing to 720 pixels upon which I thought the alleged MJ silhouette ended up looking weird, a bit fat and with no visible hand. I guess you guys thought it didn’t look so bad after all. Thank you again.

Ummmm. . .you lost all credibility about the "severely handicapped in the creativity department" thing with this one :) WOW! THIS IS CREATIVE GENIUS! Even tho you got the idea from someone else, it was your creativity that pulled it off -- and it is nothing short of amazing! Congratulations on taking the top spot with this deserving photo!

This is a fabulous shot and a great Idea and execution
I didnt even realise we could put different images together I thought they all had to be of the same subject and the drawing bit well I have learned something today

There are no editing limits in 1x that I know of.

Btw, didn't Ben's shot get rejected at 1x before being accepted? I seem to recall they had editing issues with it at first.

I reviewed the precedent before proceeding with the idea. These are photos from previous expert editing challenges where drawings were important parts of the composition:

Wouldn't it have been ultra cool to have a guy dressed as him, arms outstretched in that famous white shirt, blowing in the wind? Love the clouds and the escalator. This challenge was just too much fun.
