 I am not really a Michael Jackson fan so I didn't get that excited when I saw this challenge until I saw that it was expert editing. It has been so long since an expert editing and I couldn't pass this up. I was brainstorming ideas for "Off the Wall" when a friend suggested I try "Man in the Mirror." This is the first idea that popped into my head. It was really difficult to execute because it is hard to get the illusion that is a mirror down perfectly when there is a different world within the mirror.

The concept is a world is trapped inside this mirror, but the man in the mirror is happy and doesn't know about the woman who has fallen in love with him. She is saddened by the fact that she cannot join him in his world and that they will forever be separated. It is a kind of a cheesy concept but I am pretty happy with how it turned out.

There is a lot going on in this image and to really get it you have to stop and take a second to take it all in, so I hope that everyone takes the time to do so.

This was made from 5 images:
-The image of the boy in the mirror, the landscape portrait is all shot on location
- The frame of the mirror and the blemishes on the mirror itself all in one photo.
- The wall background
- The image of the girl's reflection and the underside of her hand in the reflection in the mirror.
- The image of the girl touching the mirror. I did the two girls separately so that I could get the backlighting on the girl's hand right. The concept I had was that the only light was emanating from the mirror itself which made the light sources on the girl tricky.


WOOO! It took two years to get a new personal best but I did it. Wow that is insane. Thanks so much guys!

Boy, this is a really well-executed picture - it helps as I don't know of the album you mention, but the image is first-rate.

What patience and care went into it - if you don't already, I would consider doing this as a living - you have it all sewn up, so far as I can see

I really like this photograph. I think that the lack of color showcases the longing that the woman has. The reflection is brilliant, as well as the texture of the mirror/window.
