 My little red squirrel who visits. He likes the pine cones. Eats 'em like corn on the cob, sorta. Peels off the shell part, drops it, eats the seeds. So I have a pile of shredded pine cones under the tree. It's an interesting recycling program. I take the cones that fall off into my yard and put them at the base of the tree - he comes down, gets one, takes it up in the tree and shreds it.

The 24-105 isn't a great wildlife lens - this is a pretty decent crop.

I love the story, and what a cute squirrel! Great image of him in his habitat. Those ear tufts are just great; I've only seen ground squirrels where I am now, they are so different :-)

Nice story and lovely image. The other day I tried to feed a squirrel that was wondering around my backyard, but one of my cats chase her out... he is kind of territorial :(

its a great shot deb and i loved your story .. i wish we had squirrels where i live ..
we have rabbits, but you cant get anywhere near them .. :)

Wonderful squirrel! I've seen many of them, but they're always quickly gone. Nice "side view" capture. I like the light and the long shadows here.

Awww I love the hair on his ears!!! We just have regular ol' brown squirrels here, and the occasional black squirrel. How funny to watch them eat. Love it!

Colors play well together here: orange/red, green. blue. Strong sunlight not ideal for a flattering portrait, but works anyway because it conveys instead a convincing sense of the natural world. Too many people miss what exists right outside our doors (even in the most urbanized places). This side challenge makes a good excuse to pay more attention to the everyday wonders that we tend to take for granted.
