I shot a couple of pics of this train coming toward me (decent enough shots, but nothing outstanding), and then noticed all the colorful graffiti on the cars. I went up to the crossing and started shooting in burst mode as the train rolled past me at a crossing. Since the light was flashing, some of the shots didn't work as well. The light-on shots definitely have more impact.

I have a nice selection of variations of this, with different colored cars and graffiti on them. I'll post a few alternatives after the challenge.

Pre-challenge notes:
Not sure how this will come off in voting, but I really love the way I was able to tie the title and image in with "The Little Engine That Could". I've actually flipped back and forth with another potential entry, but this one is growing on me. I think it may or may not get as high a score as the other one, but it should certainly be good for a few comments.

Expected critiques include:
-Composition lacking, should have cropped it tighter/higher/lower, or just doesn't work.
-Should have used a narrower aperture to get both the train and barrier in focus
-Light and crossing barrier don't add anything.

Post challenge notes:
So much for what I thought was a great entry. I suppose at a quick glance there is not much to it. I got nothing but positive comments on it, however, so I suppose this makes it a successful shot that simply failed to connect with the larger group.

Here is the entire sequence as this boxcar rolled past me:

Nice find. I really like the colors, DOF, and the unique viewpoint. I think the centered composition with the red light almost dead center may have knocked it down a little in the scoring. A squarish crop of the right hand side seems a strong composition. Also trying to put the red light on the thirds in csmera and keeping the retangular crop may have looked cool as well.

I really like the idea behind this photo, "The little engine that could" or couldn't, in this case....

A little bit of a mixed metaphor makes this technical success a true winner. From an artistic standpoint, it conveys a different sense of whimsy and humor. A good sound entry into the challenge - a good combination of imagination and composition. Well done.
