|I shot a couple of pics of this train coming toward me (decent enough shots, but nothing outstanding), and then noticed all the colorful graffiti on the cars. I went up to the crossing and started shooting in burst mode as the train rolled past me at a crossing. Since the light was flashing, some of the shots didn't work as well. The light-on shots definitely have more impact.
I have a nice selection of variations of this, with different colored cars and graffiti on them. I'll post a few alternatives after the challenge.
Not sure how this will come off in voting, but I really love the way I was able to tie the title and image in with "The Little Engine That Could". I've actually flipped back and forth with another potential entry, but this one is growing on me. I think it may or may not get as high a score as the other one, but it should certainly be good for a few comments.
Expected critiques include:
-Composition lacking, should have cropped it tighter/higher/lower, or just doesn't work.
-Should have used a narrower aperture to get both the train and barrier in focus
-Light and crossing barrier don't add anything.
Post challenge notes:
So much for what I thought was a great entry. I suppose at a quick glance there is not much to it. I got nothing but positive comments on it, however, so I suppose this makes it a successful shot that simply failed to connect with the larger group.
Here is the entire sequence as this boxcar rolled past me:
