Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Lens: Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
Location: VT - usa
Date: Sep 24, 2006
Aperture: f:18
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/80

Date Uploaded: Mar 9, 2009

orignal file name 290_9073.CRW

shot this on september 24th, 2006 - another of our betta fish in a wine glass. shot with canon 10d and the 50mm 1.8 i don't own anymore. the fish has since died, and been replaced with a crown tail version ( a bit more frills on the fins ) he's cool though up in fish heaven.

converted from raw ( no adjustments ).
masked out all but the fish - and ran a heavy levels adjustment to bring out underexposed fish - copied the mask to a curves adjustment layer - and then copied the mask again for a hue/saturation adjustment layer.

i repeated that process for the lawn and tree line at the top.

then i burned in the clouds a bit.

sharpened full size - convert to 8bit - convert to sRGB - resize to 720px - sharpen web res - save as for web.

i'm entering this for the DPCO4 and my team globetrotters. personally i'm not thrilled with it. but i don't take a ton of photos - at least i haven't too this point. job ate up most of my free time during the warmer months, and winter is kinda of a drag here in vermont. not trying to make excuses - it is what it is...

Striking and interesting fish in a fishbowl image. The cloud and sky reflections in the bowl really makes it. 7

hehe, this is fun. nice detail in the background and the fish, but it seems like a little sharpening would benifit it. maybe some burning on small places on the fish too

Well, nothing really making this look like its not just a snap shot. The point of focus would have been good if it were on his eye.. maybe cropped tighter in on the fish and cut out the edge of the bowl. Possibly try putting a backdrop behind the bowl? I do like the clouds in the water though.

Cool setup!! Beautiful Beta Fish. You captured the coloring well. It really makes him pop! I do wish that the side of the house wasn't reflected on the left of the picture, but that is just me being a little picky.

I normally hate refraction shots, but this one is nicely creative. It does seem like there is some haloing around the dorsal fin of the beta. Other than that, I like the 'world turned upside down' feeling that you captured here.

Clever image.

Don't like the crop, the bowl is confusing to me without a reference to what it's resting on, but perhaps that how the magic of the shot was obtained.
