One I've always wanted to enter but never found the right challenge when the water was running.

[Mar. 16th, 2009 05:22:18 PM]

Some of the comments said the couldn't figure out what this is.

As the title suggests, this is the Wall of Water. It is an "fountain" of sorts in Houston, TX. It is next to a tall building called Willmas Tower (formerly Transco Tower)

The Wall is one of the more interesting archetectural features in Houston. Can be a very romantic place to visit at night in the summer time. You can feel the cooling mist on a hot summer evening as you contemplate the rushing water. The falling water can be loud so you don't have a lot of conversations while standing close to it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how this looks like a tight crop of a shot of a man in a tuxedo...blue is the neckline, white is the bowtie, etc. It especially shows up in the thumbnail.

It's a great scene. I especially like the triptych-ishness of the openings.

Yeah, I do think this GEM was way underrated. 8 from me. I love the lines, the people really set it off well too.

Wow, i fully expected to see this surface in the upper 6's. It's like 3 mini portaits in one. underrateed IMHO.

This IS a fascinating photo. I love how you have to stop and think about what is going on and where these people are, or even if this is real! The perspective (trying to figure the immensity of the scene) is awesome. I also love the scenes you have captured in each archway. So much to see here!

A bit of delay on this one, I glanced and thought it was a large curtain, then realized it was water. Excellent composition and contrast; those people add a very nice human element.

I think this shot is trying to do too much. The real interest is almost buried at the bottom, with the bride and groom sharing a secret moment. It's almost getting lost in all the surroundings right now.

I like the composition of this a lot, the dark vs. the light of the wall and the silhouettes of different families under the arches.

Jaysus, what a scene! I can't wait to learn what this is. Is it real? Is it a diorama? What the heck is it? High mysterioso content, most definitely.

Perfectly framed people, each frame with a stroy to tell, and they're sequential. Married, then family, then empty-nesters and as close as ever. Perfectly timed capture.

Interesting shot. If I were to be critical I would say that the right hand end wall seems skewed and that throws the symmetry off but that is about all to criticise - a nice capture.

I LOVE the play of shapes and the slice of life you have captured in this image. I have seen this wall of water monument in other peoples photographs but never one that shows such a wonderful progression of life. I wonder if this was a lucky moment where a candid shot took on a story to be told or even if you waited for the moment. The story I see is that there are three 'doors' or stages of life's path scene here. The first starts with the young couple on the far left. I see the woman in a full length dress that makes me think of a newly married couple ready to start off their life together. The next stage is the middle one where we see two people with young children between them. This is the stage where a couple become a family. The last door/stage/panel seen in the far right has two people in it again. This time I see it as a life stage where the children have grown up and left but the couple remains, older but very much together. This Wall of Water is like a curtain that sets the stage to showcase the story that unfolds before it. Well done and thank you for showcasing this gem!

Yes, very nice subject and the peiople just go to accenuate the size.... Obviously quite a long exposure? I'd have probably tried to work on teh contrast just to "black" out the front structure. 7
