Challenge: Hidden Gem -- 1,000th Challenge! (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Date: Nov 3, 2008
Aperture: F/5.6
ISO: 1600
Shutter: 1/10 second
Galleries: Architecture
Date Uploaded: Mar 4, 2009

I was sitting by the location and noticed it out of the blue, thought it was a neat little set up. The lighting was only what was available in the setting (no flash). I set up the photograph so it wouldn't have to be cropped.

Good use of depth of field. Nice coloring.
03/17/2009 06:21:43 PM
Interesting commentary piece.
03/17/2009 04:03:09 PM
I don't much care for this, nothing is really in focus but it's interesting composition.
03/17/2009 01:12:23 AM
To be honest, this shot doesnt grab my attention... Perhaps if it was composed in a way to show what the caution tape was being used for, it might be more effective.
03/16/2009 11:02:25 PM
Seldom does one take one's own advice.
03/16/2009 08:57:14 PM
A 33k file size tells me you could have gotten a much clearer and sharper image if you had saved it with less compression. There is a lot of blockiness visible here due to JPEG compression.
03/16/2009 07:11:00 PM
Should have thrown this one to the wind. ;-)
03/16/2009 12:21:04 PM
sorry just one , was it taken with mobile when it was so small or is it such extreme crop? and then isnt it a bit boring for you too? or is it your best shot? your real gem ?
I hope not... and I believe so too

good luck though maybe it will find its fans and just.. take it easy okay? ;D

I'm not sure what you were going for here... The busy background is very distracting and makes everything seem tilted. I'm sure there's a story behind the shot, but it didn't convey itself very well to me. Sorry. 4

kinda boring
03/15/2009 11:19:15 PM
Looks a bit brown to me
03/15/2009 10:52:22 PM
Needs to be sharper.
03/15/2009 09:09:52 PM
really
03/15/2009 06:33:36 PM
Not sure I understand this one. Sorry.
03/15/2009 03:37:40 PM
Some pretty bad pixellation going on here. The composition is interesting but the subject is rather bland.
03/15/2009 03:07:23 PM
I think this could have been cropped a little tighter
03/15/2009 08:42:20 AM
I like the idea of this but I think it could have been executed a little better. It appears OOF and bumping up the colors may have helped.
03/15/2009 06:44:04 AM
Not a very interesting image at all and don't quite understand how this can be your best photo ever taken and hidden gem.
03/15/2009 12:03:33 AM
It's a yellow caution tape ... and?
03/14/2009 10:53:35 PM
I want to know more....why the caution tape, what's behind it? You need to tell a story with your photo and this is just the first word.
03/14/2009 09:45:03 PM
good job blurring the background
03/14/2009 05:56:34 PM
Brown?
03/14/2009 04:04:25 PM
I like how the yellow ribbon echoes the lines of the scaffold
03/14/2009 08:40:54 AM
Nice use of lines & colors.
03/14/2009 12:08:15 AM
Aptly titled.
03/13/2009 01:48:46 PM
try changing to b&w.. not interesting enough as it is
03/13/2009 10:37:21 AM
Sorry, but this shot is just kind of flat, blurry and uninteresting to me.. :(
03/13/2009 06:37:58 AM
The things I like here are all the diagonals and the text with his mirror.
03/13/2009 12:32:28 AM
Nice use of lines.
03/12/2009 07:50:14 PM
Good on you for seeing the art in this. Needed something tho. Maybe in black and white and more detail on the sign or a different perspective on it.
03/12/2009 03:45:49 PM
Good idea but not much going on here.
03/12/2009 02:59:48 PM
Yes this is correct!
03/12/2009 02:36:54 PM
'twas just a word, put there by people that had the best of intentions, but sometimes, what do they know? Was it a hard and fast rule? Was it just a suggestion?

To Keith, it was neither. Nay, to Keith it was a challenge. A Dare. To Keith it was an offer to ignore this silly word and do what his heart told him to do.

So he jumped that yellow line, and ignored that ominous word, and ran for the scaffolding behind it, to scale it like the king of climbing that he believed himself to be.

'twas just a word, but a powerful word, and sometimes, just sometimes, it payed to heed it, as Keith, in his lack of wisdom, would learn.
03/12/2009 02:21:35 PM
it's a little pixelated, and the colors are a little flat, but the composition works well here.
03/12/2009 01:56:32 PM
I'm not sure what you are trying to communicate.
03/12/2009 12:00:42 PM
Too much of a snapshot feel IMO. Lacking appeal.
03/12/2009 07:48:47 AM
To me, it is difficult to understand wht this picture wants to convey
03/12/2009 07:22:52 AM
I'm expecting to see CSI's coming in soon :)
03/12/2009 07:19:48 AM
A bit fuzzy and lacks content.
03/11/2009 04:51:51 PM
OOF, sorry the photo is missing the wow factor...
03/11/2009 09:39:19 AM
needs to tell a story
03/11/2009 02:49:04 AM
what a gem
03/11/2009 01:22:43 AM
Plenty of interesting angles and lines here.
03/11/2009 12:21:53 AM
Nice job with the DOF.
