yes, this is a great image - to me, the beauty is in finding so many things happening in a regular everyday scene.

Nice to see you around here again...

great shot ruined in post-processing. just my opinion. i just see so many opportunities with this image, but what you've done with it isn't anything that i would do. ain't that the beauty of being an artist ;-)

Not a lot of people would have either seen or taken this shot. Glad you did. I love the contrast provided my your walking man against the people standing still and waiting as a bus passes them by. Great choice for BW. Hope you do well cause this is a real gem!

Back for bump and comment. Technically this is well done, B&W conversion is well done and tons of detail all over. But your title says it all; left side of the pole are the older, slower folks, perhaps more contemplative. On the right is the younger man, oblivious to the world and moving quickly. Well done.

Back to comment and bump: Is this one of your gems you discovered looking through your files or was it on your short list from the start of the challenge? Feel free to PM me with an answer. The B&W conversion iis spot on and the image is just fun to look at. 9

I like the contrast between still and moving, the pole makes this a natural diptych.

Excellent use of the pole to separate the dynamic movement of the young man from the static old people. Great capture and composition. Works very well in b/w.

i like this - its just so odd - something I would do. the dichotomy works here - old/young, fast/slow...8

a little to busy for me...but I like your tones

Very much so - nicely dichotomous!

03/14/2009 02:33:09 AM
Well yes it is, but the fun doesn't end there. The people are arrayed like a line of standing dominoes, ready to ripple into motion. And somehow, the man looking back, out of frame, makes a terrific counterpoint to the man striding out of the other side. It's as if the striding man is going to vanish out of the right margin, and immediately re-enter the scene from the left. 8.

My eye first goes to the blurry guy and then follows him out of frame. This would be an excellent photo but for that. great tones and interesting subjects.

I like the post processing. excellent street photography. Normally I would have commentd on the tree being a distraction, but for this shot I feel that it works very well in the shot. good job , 7

I really like this. The precise sharp focus on the three and the blurred motion of the one are great together. Young/old. Sedate/Energetic. Lots going on here!

so much to see here, keeps me engaged! i love the processing...

Great shot, great color treatment. I like the tree breaking up the foreground and splitting the image in half while the bus still takes your eyes through the rest of the image.

03/13/2009 12:18:21 PM
interesting effect there on the man's face. What really takes this up a notch though are the supporting elements.

Especially the pairings.

2 women with umbrellas that look like 1 woman with 2 umbrellas.

Man with no umbrella with what looks like 1 woman with 2 umbrellas as one pair separating a Man looking left on the left and the man on the right looking right.

Man in motion in the opposite direction of the bus with the visual link.

No visible line on the ground separating sidewalk from road (a row of innocuous dots), and a tree dividing the frame which appears dead/fruitless/purposeless.

Pretty cool shot I'd say.

Probably getting a pretty crappy score too. Oh well, try this 1 0n for size. ;)

Wow, this is way more interesting than I thought it was going to be in the first 5 seconds. This is really quite excellent, and the pole in the middle bisecting the slow/fast movement is quite grand. I hope this does very well, good luck in the challenge! 9

I really like the BW conversion here, nicely done! I can feel the story of the shot with combo of motion and still. Very effective. The only nitpick I have is the slanted horizon, but it could have been kept that way for a greater sense of dimension. Well done.

A dichotomy is any splitting of a whole into exactly two non-overlapping parts. Ok had to look! very interesting I looked at this one for a bit to take all of it in.

03/11/2009 02:04:12 AM
natural dichotomy. love the movement with the contrast of no movement.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
03/11/2009 01:34:42 AM
I'm trying to figure out the dichotomy; walking vs bus? Still vs blurred by walking? Sheltered by rain vs "I don't care"? In any case it's a nice shot. It seems a little tilted down to the right. both on the bus and tile.
