I just came across this (you know how looking at one thing leads to another, leads to another?) I love this pic. I can't understand all the 'exploitation' crap, nor the low votes. And the last thing I'd notice would be the dust spots.

so creative and excellent! You & Socks have matching ribbons now!

What our pets will tolerate from us eh?
now get him a nice bowl of kitty chow and maybe a little mouse to play with!

And I 2nd that comment about the jealous insecure people who vote below 4 because they are so insecure about their own work!

This is amazing. She is a tiny little 7-month old, isn't she. I used to have a cat that was her twin. CONGRATULATIONS on a no-brainer for a ribbon :)

Bloody excellent shot Judi - Hair of the Dog??? - so to speak - and yes I can't understand how a blue, red or yellow ribbon winner can attract a vote of 1, 2 or 3. Just idiotic morons.

Thankyou for this. I am not saying that I shouldn't get low votes....because I believe I should get low votes. But to get low votes indicates there is an error in my skills. And I need to know where those errors are so I can improve. Just like any person on here. But how can that happen if the voters do not tell me where those errors are? [/quote]

well, Im retired and dont have the time to comment on hundreds of images that I rank low. I think you expect far too much here. hopefully this exchange will prompt more critique, but I doubt it. gl

Why some people feel compelled to chase some of DPC's most dedicated, cooperative, and hard working members away from these contests is beyond me.

I think all of us are frustrated by very low votes, and would like to understand them better. Judi, you have as much right to express your frustration, as they do in voting low to begin with.

wow! talk about "poor winner" - seems you have a very high regard for your work, which is terrific, but why such intolerance for criticism? you act as if we dont like your cat. we love cats, its just that some of us are not into the exploitive style of this concept. for the commercial photographers in our midst, Im sure they ranked it very high. for the fine art photographers, perhaps less so. and so on. hope we see you win many more times; will be fun to see if your attitude ends up in the win column as well. best of luck.

I gave it a 3, and in view of your quoted remark I feel compelled to explain why. First, I thought it was tacky; putting an animal into this contrived situation is to me not all that far removed from bear dancing. It is no defence that this cat may not have actually objected ... it remains exploitative and does you no credit. Second, it lacks any but the most base of aesthetic purposes. How is my world (indeed anyone's world) broadened or affected in any meaningful way by this picture of a cat in a cocktail glass? What is the point of it? It is bereft of both feeling and purpose, and for me that's a 3. I accept that few people will agree with me on this, but I'm not asking them to do so. Nor am I insulting them for how they did vote.

Please remember, I would not have spoken, would never have said a word, had you not made your offensive and presumptuous accusation in the Photographer's Comments box.

Thankyou. Now THAT is a comment that I can respect. Your views are real and you based your score on that. My comment in my about was more referring to the people that do NOT have a reason for their low vote except to push their image that little bit higher up the results ladder.

You just need to look at many of the ribbon winners to see that. I would estimate that 95% of ribbon entries have 1's, 2's and 3 votes...with no explanation.

I am not offended by your view....but am very appreciative that you took the time to explain why. Thankyou so much for that.

Edit for typo.

Best set up of all. Just wondering, is that a HUGE glass or a TINY kitty? Wish the lighting hadn't been so even - having the light fall off towards the back would have reduced the horizontal line and made the kitty portion more prominent.
