What I did on my summer vacation....

Pelicans in Santa Barbara, shot on a morning outing with Germaine. Interesting trek along a railroad-tie type thingie to get out to the spit where the pelicans were hanging out.

Pretty good crop on this one - I have a wider version I kinda like better but not at 720 pixels, I suppose. Processed using the "superfunhappy" action I got from that crack dealer I've mentioned before, only turned off the warming layer. I liked it cooler - fit the scene better. Dodging on the birds, burning on the sand, but probably not enough to make much difference. Still not sure what to burn or dodge or where... Would like to figure out how to take apart the action and turn off the gaussian blur. I like it sometimes, would prefer it not there other times.

Had lots of options for Free Study as far as shots from the month that I liked. None with "wow" though. Maybe next month with the "wow"... :-) But this one is a nice reminder of a very good summer vacation, and that works for me.

What a find! I've never seen so many pelicans, even in Santa Barbara.

haha - i was looking for a black and white street shot from you. Shows what I know.

I like the filter on this. It makes me think of the wind blowing and blending the feathers, sand, and water all together. I like the brown and blue tones too - fits well with the overcast skies and seascape setting. It's very cool - there's lots of fun stuff to look at in here.

This is a great shot Deb! I gave it an 8 in voting. I think you did well with the dodging and burning. If you download the filter Bad Dream from Xero it will do an exaggerated dodge & burn that you can either fade or just use as a guide (see what it does, undo do it and do just the bits you want).

I think this is a lovely gentle almost meditative type shot that would have done a lot better in a smaller challenge. Glad it managed to fly (or maybe waddle) upto the 6 mark :- )

It was a stand-off, but the gull side was weakening. Every minute there were fewer and fewer. They fought well, they fought bravely, but it seemed to be inevitable. They were going to lose their land. As the day waned, they took one final stand, and their bravery was never forgotten.

Either you were very lucky getting close without them all scarpering, or you have a zoom lens that I am very jealous of :) Great shot, I love the brown and grey tones.
