Another very cool shot. B/W was the perfect choice and the crop too. Great stuff!

I was not sure what the "noise" comment was about.

The serrations on the knife have multiple reflections/highlights coming off that might give the impression of noise. the knife was not new...It has lots of use and imperfections which I liked in macro mode becasue it gave it that "I just picked this knife up off the counter after making a ham sandwich to kick your a$$ you stupid beer drinking, WWE watching, homophobic, hard hat wearing pig!"...whew..I think I have issues >:-D

What does the commenter mean by noise on the left side of the knife. I've been taking pictures for over 40 years, am still an amaeture and don't know what they mean by noise, even though my camera has noise reduction....PTL

I'm finally going through and commenting on my favourite photos from this week (I didn't have time before). This was one of my 10s :). It's just brilliant, the kind of photo that I would describe as having a narrative feel. I can create a story to explain the elements of the knife and the woman's face. A photo that does that is very powerful.
10/21/2002 11:44:00 AM
The person in the picture is a friend of ours...she is a make-up artist at the local theatre where they are working on "Rocky Horror Picture Show". I am shooting the stills.
10/21/2002 07:40:00 AM
I like it. Who's in the picture?
10/21/2002 12:01:00 AM
Interesting. The shot seems slightly "over the top" so to speak, seeming almost like a horror movie poster. While I do think it's deeper than that, it walks that line closely. That said, the shot is clear and easily understood. It's effective and evokes an emotional responce. The reflection is excellent. I like it very much. 8 wingy

Is this a reflection submission? :) actually it looks more to me like Wraith. I like it. 9

very nice reflection and use of the silver against the black ... 7-photosbyayme
10/20/2002 03:33:00 PM
agh, the knife is so dirty!
10/18/2002 11:14:00 PM
Great job! I like that the knife is scratched up; it adds character to the pic. 8/10
10/18/2002 04:40:00 PM
The only thing that stops me giving it a 10 is the overall lack of sharpness. The concept and the composition is superb, it's just that final lack of polish which makes me give it a 9. But I usually judge hard... ;)

Nice shot. Would've been cool in the reflections challenge as well. I like the negative space and the way you have used it. karmat

great commentary on domestic violence. 8
10/17/2002 07:35:00 PM
Good picture! The face's expression is in exact harmony with the knife andthe picture.
10/17/2002 06:13:00 PM
Interesting image. I like the use of negative space. This would probably have been great entry in the "reflections" challenge.
10/17/2002 01:30:00 AM
Nice image. The line created by the knife is quite strong. The reflection is the icing on the cake.
10/16/2002 11:51:00 PM
awsome shot, great creativity...i like it
10/16/2002 11:47:00 PM
Like the concept of the reflection in a knife. Would like to see it in a newer knife; sharper clearer image. Otherwise, great.
10/16/2002 05:57:00 PM
thsi is a trip. i really like how this shot is set up. scary and emotional, and the composition is awesome. 9--alecia

A reflection in a knife. Would have been a good submission 2 weeks ago. Nice clarity in your picture, but doesn't really depict emotion. Maybe having blood dripping off the knife would have been more dramatic.
10/16/2002 02:14:00 PM
Not the sharpest knife...
10/15/2002 10:34:00 PM
Good shot. I would assume this is wrath, but I see no anger. Take a point off for that, and the noise on the left of the blade is kinda strange. 7 nards656

I have been looking at this picture for days trying to figure out what it was that was bothering me. I like the knife and the background and the reflection but the black and white image seems a little off. It seems like the image should have been in green or red or something.
10/15/2002 01:40:00 AM
Scary... Though creative.
10/14/2002 10:46:00 PM
creepy!

great shot.
10/14/2002 09:50:00 PM
Cool shot.
10/14/2002 09:32:00 PM
Very scary picture...must have been a very clean and shiny knife. Black and white seems to emphasize the violence represented

Beautiful impact. great composition
10/14/2002 07:05:00 PM
I can definently see a sin being ready to be committed. Not a god shot, and good reflection.
10/14/2002 06:55:00 PM
Well executed shot. Nice use of B&W. Nice use of the black. Could have used one additional detail, somewhere, to spice this shot (use of one color somewhere? or a detail in the refletion?). Nice shot. 8/10
10/14/2002 05:41:00 PM
nice. IMO the reflexion needs a bit of contrast. cool photo.
10/14/2002 05:27:00 PM
Alright. This week's winner.
10/14/2002 04:55:00 PM
I have a funny feeling this is going to win. Excellent idea. A definite 10.

Excelent use of black and white! I really love the angle and framing/cropping you have chosen. you did an excelent job with the reflections and the lighting is good to emphasize the knife and make it stand out very nicely on the black background. The only nit I have is that I think I would have liked this without the spots on the knife. There are a few scratches and spots that i think kind of take away from the reflection. Still a really great photo though. Good luck in the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~

Great creative shot. You did this soooooo well. Congrats!!!!!!!!!
10/14/2002 09:48:00 AM
Excellent work. I like the simplicity of the image and the strong contrast. I wonder what it would have look like in colour. Perhaps, the drama would have been lost? Very well done. 9 Morgan

ghinsu!

I'm rating this fairly high because I like the shot overall -(8). To me, it does not really portray or convey any of the deadly sins without the title. lhall

This is a very well thought out image... excellent work... :) - setzler

This is my favorite image this week. Oh man, it speaks to me. Somehow, it reminds me of the Picture of Dorian Gray. It has tremendous psychological and emotional power. My only 10 this week. Journey
