For anyone who doesnt know (yeah right)- I am a full time stay at home dad. My last occupation shot was a picture of the three of us in a McDonalds bathroom. I wanted to go in a different direction with this one as they have grown so much since then. And we have been doing much more photo business that I thought this Would also be a good posing test.

Shot in our studio strobist style with the 420 off a silver umbrella camera right, 580exII on camera as master only. Since Aimee wasnt home I tried it first with just one hand in the shot and my other firing the corded remote. That looked pretty silly so I went to the timer - which was slightly challenging. Get pretty much posed, hit the release, finish up the pose making sure faces arent covered all the while saying "close your eyes, no smiles, just relax" and then doing that all myself just before it fires. This was the last shot of 10 attempts or so. THey were done and were ready to get back to the tv.

We will be on vacation at the Green House of Fun when voting ends and there is no internet where we are camping so I probably wont find out how this finished til almost a week later.
Editing - RAW conversion, S/H adjustments (several), curves adjustments (several), selective color adjustments (several), dodging and burning galore, some cloning to remove a shirt tag and some shorts issues, b&w conversion, a couple of actions from the Totally Rad Demo pack - Bitchin b&w and Super Fun Happy which do alot with gaussian blur layers, inverted curves layers and selective color layers - resize, USM, border.

Congratulations for the warmest photo of this challenge. (voted 10) Fuller of tenderness, flood of emotions, including the smile that your son tries to contain. Very sweet. Technically perfect, perfect illumination. Wonderful photographer and wonderful father. Congrats for the ribbon and for your beautiful family.

Excellent shot and idea Timfy, it truly conveys peace, safety, comfort, and love. :)

PS- I have to say again, excellent shot, favorited.

PPS- I wanted to tag on that I was looking through your profile and I noticed on one of your photos you commented that people are probably getting sick of seeing your kids. I think you are being too hard on good ole DPC, I'm sure we will all find them absolutely adorable forever... anyone who doesn't is a stinky face... or at least until the teen years hit, black lipstick, nose rings, hehehe...

PPPS- My mother wanted me to personally tell you "Wow, that is, that should have got first place. That photo is probably one of the best four I've seen on this site. That is just so perfect. Hey, you should tell him that, can you leave him a comment?"

This is a beautiful portrait that deserves a place of honor over your mantle. Beautifully done, and I might have to PM you for tips on getting kids to stay still long enough for a shot like this. The lighting is wonderful and the B&W processing is wonderfully done. One of very few 10's I give out.
