I was listening to the radio and they were talking about the time, dedication and money Olympic athletes need in their quest to reach the games. It truly is a full time job. I have seen many pics of swimmers and the expression on their face during a race and, to me, it epitomizes the energy and strength and dedication needed. So I wanted to replicate this feeling.

This was not fun. Thats me in the pool. It has been miserable around here the last 2 days. Taken around 10 pm the water was about 70F/21c and I was &$!@ freeeezing

I did all the setup and my wife used the remote to snap away. Only did 10 shots and this is the only one that was usuable. I wish I could take some more to get it right as I am not too happy with this one.

The water give a funny effect when it rolls off the skin.

What an amazing photo. And such excellent timing with the world standing in awe of the swimming sport!

Congratulations on 4th place. Sometimes, it is really a shame that we don't have 4 ribbons!

Just managed to get on a computer to check my outcome. Thanks to all who voted and commented.

Funny that I finished with a score of 7. Everytime I checked my score it was 7.

There's something about this that I quite like - the determination, the grittiness, maybe.

You're an Olympic hopeful? Very cool - good luck!

Great, intense facial expression. Your model's arm looks like it's missing a chunk on the right (I know, the things that distract people can be strange). Also, something about how the skin is blurred on the arms makes it look like plastic to me.

great intensity, love the expression, the b/w really works well, 10. And if this doesn't finish in the top 3 I'll do something drastic...like swap my iMac for a PC!

Leo, this is fantastic. What a great shot. I'm so glad you had time to do a shot for this challenge and I'm even happier that I was able to find what one was yours. I would have missed it but I saw that goofy look on your face when I told you I lost a foot from my tripod the day we went out shooting waterfalls.

I hope to see this one on the front page, you really stroked this one for what it's worth.

Good luck with this one.

MAX!

This is really awesome. I love the contrast, and the almost metallic quality to the water. My only nit pick would be that i would have liked to see the whole head. Not changing my score based on that though, as it's excellent as is!

Oh I love this. I'm a sucker for any swimming photo. My dad was the Olympic diving coach in 1964. Grew up as the swimming/diving coaches daughter, so that smell of chloring brings back some happy memories. Fabulous tones and depth.
