This is actually a yellow tulip - used the CS3 B&W conversion tool with a blue filter - turned it very dark. It's grainy, it's not sharp. I was trying to shoot the thing hand held, high ISO, low light, and with a stiff breeze.

And yes, Lisa, grain is always intentional! :-)

Yep, it's dark and moody and wonderful. That B&W conversion is fantastic and those few drops of water seem to speak of sadness and hope at the same time.

The darkness gives it a dramatic look to it.

ditto the comments of karmat & cfarrell! (too early for me to be witty yet-only on first cup of java :)

nicely done (AGAIN!!) Deb! can't wait to see some of the garden shots, so lovely to vicariously enjoy spring as we dive feet first into MUD season here!

Have great weekend!

I really like the suttle light gray tones and textures here, especially under the water droplets, and also the petals.

Gloomy , but so is the day right? Not all is bright and beautiful, yet you capture this so well.

Whatever, this is so beautiful. I'm happy to see that even a yellow tulip has a bad day ;) (sure wish my bad days looked so good! lol)

you did very well with your hand holding, high iso-ing, low lighting, stiff breezing self. the water drops add nice details.

And it still came out well... the water droplets kind of stand out, like they're a little more saturated (possible in B&W? hehe)...

Might be yummy in a true quad or tritone. I love tulips. Their shape is so magical to me. The drops just add to the mood- almost like tears. ;~(

I like the dark mystery of it - always love the way they look before opening and the droplets seem to to take us to the secret opening...

I thought the graininess was intentional - I think it adds to the moodiness. Does look mournful - poor thing - GRIN!

Gloomy it is, but the texture receives a lot of my "eye-time."

I agree it seems a bit gloomy but I like the droplets. It adds interest.
