This one is the best in the challenge. Event the writings on the window are to the subject! Did anyone look?

In regards to "Old man and the Seat". I saw him from accross the street. Then I fliped up the LCD screen on my E-10 and pretended to fiddle with it at my waist as I walked past and got off two shots. So no, it wasn't posed.

I happen to be in San Fran for an NAPP conference.

LOL, a few folk didn't see how it met the challenge?? Best part is looking at their entries! :-)

Well done!

Great shot Joel. Did he pose for you or did you just find a great moment?

Great job on this photo and your 8th place. This was an excellent shot.

love the pic, the lightening the colours (or lack therof ;) ) and the motive. Just don't quite get where the offscreen expectation comes from, sorry, voted low because of that.

Best I've seen in this challenge so far.

This is soo good framed that it can be a portret photo, a journalistic image or even a commercial add...

Makes me wonder what he's looking at. Very nice.

this is a great photo...the b/w is fantastic...he looks to be sitting there waiting for a taxi or bus just waiting and having a coffee...well done

lighting is fab but for the forehead. The worry lines if brought out would add the final touch. You could tweak the levels or gamma.

Nice shot. It makes me wonder what the old fellow is waiting for - could he have the grim reaper in his sights? 8

We should be wondering what he´s looking at, or what? Very well that´s fine but maybe not obvious linkage to the challenge.
The image is fine. The exposure and contrast seems to be "right". Composition and subject very nice.

Love this kind of image..and the story that it tells.
The cafe owners obviously have problems with disappearing chairs.
If you want a chair here then you are going to have to take the lot !
The old gentleman is hanging on to his bag pretty tightly too :)

Great work

Good theme interpretation, composition and overall appeal. I like this in B&W.

A beautiful portrait though not one that makes me think about what is happening off-screen since his expression leads me to believe he is reliving memories from a less lonely time and not looking at his surroundings much at all. That may not be the case but it's what the image suggests to me. I do like the image very much.

The composition of this is fantastic. I can only guess what he's expecting off-screen. From the look on his face, it could be some deep thinking he's doing there. Good B/W, nice lighting. 10.

What is that wire running through the picture? Nice photograph. It gives a feeling of 'a world slowed down' with the desaturation.

It's a great candid shot, but it doesn't make me wonder what's going on outside the frame...
03/10/2004 05:36:19 PM
I wish a sexy 23 year old walks in the scene, give him a big kiss and they have coffee together! LOL Great shot. I love the focus, the desaturation is awesome.
Love it.

Beautiful, beautiful shot!!! A 10 and added to my favourite photographs

I would have cropped the image in both left and right sides but I still like the subject so much it gets a 10

Nice capture but I don't understand how it fits the challenge...

This picture really makes me think.. "what is that guy thinking about??" Is he looking at punk kids? Is he looking at an overly-friendly couple in public? This is cool, and it grows on me as I look at it more.... for some reason, the lock on the table and chair add something to the photo.. maybe an idea of the kind of neighborhood this was taken in. 8

Excellent shot, this is why I joined DPC! Full marks from me!!

The expression on his face is brilliant, really captures something nice! I like how you have him placed in the shot so he draws your eyes to the right hand side of the picture. Well done!! :-)
