Used my 1.4 teleconverter and 70-200 at 200 mm from almost at the top of the stadium. I love this lens!

He really was out, by the way. Either the ball really does move that much faster, or his front foot landed before the base and he needed his back foot to reach it.

I completely agree with all of the comments about removing the first base coach's head and the bit of grass. In advanced, that's just what I would've done. I tried rotating it, but it only reduced them, as opposed to eliminating them.

Taken at the same game, from pretty much the same spot, as my free study entry:

Levy,

This is a great shot. I do baseball action also so I know how hard this is.

Nice job.

This is amazingly good, considering the circumstances. That lens is incredible! Oh, and you seem to have a pretty good idea how to use it, too. :P

Ah Jeffrey, so close to that 6! I think you did a great job of processing this. Were it advanced, and you could have cloned out the head, you would have scored much higher.

Nice sports photo. Good action, nice capture of the ball, and the play making by third base.

Marvelous capture -- the moment of uncertainty. Really conveys the sense of speed. I like the colors, and the focus is amazing. I like the texture of the dirt. I would have guessed safe judging by the distances.

Nice capture. Color and clarity are good. It would have been nice to be able to crop out the head at the bottom, and or the small grass patch, but I dont see how at the angle you have presented.

Great composition and timing! I know it must have been hard not to clone out the blue hat and green grass, but I hope people don't count off for that. The one thing I don't get is the title because the runner is obviously beating the throw. 8

You know, this is a really nice shot. I like the use of negative space, and if this were advanced editing I could only suggest cloning out the base coach's head.

This has grown on me from when I first viewed it.

While it's obviously nice to have captured the ball in the shot, what really works for me is the diagonal it forms between the ball entering top left, and the catcher waiting for it bottom right. The shot is perfectly cropped to keep both players in the frame forming another lower diagonal running bottom left to mid right, and the triangle of grass shows that there is more outside of this picture than just brown dirt.

The figures are crisp and clear, and have a natural tension between the one running and frozen in time, and the other frozen waiting for the ball to make it's way down the picture.

Or at least that's how I see it :- )

Good shot.

pity that its a basic editing or else you could have cropped out the head at the bottom. great pic though, leaves the audience gasping to know the result of the play

Interesting capture. The green turf on the left side and the blue hat or whatever it is on the bottom distract from the overall composition. Otherwise it's very good.

Nice composition - the ball in the corner really makes the shot.

Great action shot! To improve it would hav been better if the ball ahd been closer, so that the photo could have been cropped in a bit.Not your fault though, because it would have meant the runner would be too close to the base and blocking the catcher. I don't know.. :-)
