When you're done swinging the bat, the ball shouldn't be behind you.

This is my first image where I started with a nice, sharp image:

and then edited it to become more unsharp. The ball was always blurred, but I:
- copied the image into a new layer
- applied "find edges"
- set the blend mode to "overlay"

How'd I know to do that? I didn't - was just playing around.

I like the effect because it emphasizes the shapes and action, not how sharp the lettering is on the batter's jersey or the edges of the umpire's mask.

Shot at 200mm plus a 1.4x teleconverter for an equivalent of 280mm from near the top of the stadium.

Uhoh, I think I rubbed off on you. Be prepared for DPC hardballers to trash the playing. But it sure is fun, isn't it?
The find edges sure has given it a real feel of the game, IMO. I especially like how it worked on the soil and on the ball.

Jeffrey, both images are good! The pp here brings home the gritty feel of a hot day in the stands, watching a game. oh, since you're up, could you get me a beer & some peanuts please?
