Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Zodiac (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Fujifilm FinePix S602Z
Location: Outdoors near home
Date: Jan 24, 2004
Aperture: F9.0
ISO: 160
Shutter: 1/42
Galleries: Sports, Action
Date Uploaded: Jan 24, 2004

I rigidly established the arrow in front of my camera so the arrow and camera would move as one (maybe explain later). Then I (laterally) swept the camera from right to left and snapped the shutter while doing so (hoping to convey that the arrow was 'in flight').

Post processing: I performed a slight canvas rotation and recropped the image. Applied light sharpening and level adjustments. I then converted to Duotone and added border.

This "Thank You" goes out to all those who took time to vote and/or comment on my entry.

I must admit that I was somewhat surprised at these results. I was hopeful of getting into the top ten, hence 2nd place was a very nice surprise.

Love it, love it, love it. I'm a 3D archer myself, and just love it. And it's been achieved by a fellow S602 Zoom user too!

I like the concept. Good use of blurred background to convey movement.

Is this arrow really in motion, or is the background blur a filter?

Great sence of speed. Love the photo, great job.
I would love to know how this is done.

I have to know, was this shot actually taken with the arrow in motion?
Great picture none the less! Good luck

What great "texture" to that background - nice mix of tones in it too.
Arrow is sharp and well positioned - but feels a little wonky. Doesn't detract for me though.

At a quick glance, I thought you did an amazing job panning, then I realized how you took this. Very nice effect, and great focus on the arrow.

Sharp as it can be. Very good expression of movement and speed but I cant figure out if you have done it just by using large apperture or if somekind of movement is included.

Nice effect here, with the blurred background and completely sharp arrow. I'll guess at how you made it: Slow shutter speed, and moving a picture behind the arrow. However you did it, I like it.

Taken while rotated on a tripod? I like it - nice focus and exposure. I feel like I'm flying with the arrow. Simple, yet effective to me. Well done.

It's sharp and the blurred background implies motion, but the foreground still fails to keep my attention. The concept is there, but the fact that it's simply an arrowhead tip doesn't really keep me interested.

Really nice. Like the foreground sharpness couple with background motion blur. Would love to know "How'd you do that."

Amazing panning! (I think) I like the way you choose a "boring" angle/composition, which works extremely well with the determination of the arrow/archer. No screwing around making parabolas. He aims straight for the target! I love it!
