I really liked this image in challenge and I like it still now. Great colors and lines, just the right amount of motion blur on all of the charachters but the one. Just so much to look at, yet not even close to being too busy. Great eye.

I also thought this was a great photo. In the Free Study, I would have easily given it an 8 or a 9 (Which is very high for me). As it was in candid challenge I gave it a 7, still pretty high. In a candid photo, I usually want to be able to see a face (or at least something that gives me a sense of feeling). This photo does that, but not in the same way I want a candid photo to do it. I feel a sort of loneliness here. To me it says that this man is alone and he wants nothing more than to do a simple crossword , but he wants people to be around him while he does it. Who knows though, maybe he is just waiting for his wife in the shoe store..... but that is not how it makes me feel. I guess I am rambling, which is a good thing cause I would not take the time to ramble over a picture i did not like. Do not be discouraged by the votes here, they mean nothing unless you are trying to appeal to the widest audience possible, which I do not think you are. As far as this competition though, I do feel the score was about right. Maybe a better photo than most, but not a better candid. Just my honest thoughts.

Great photo Shanny! I voted this high...what do I get? Seriously though...I'm betting more people liked this than Roz is giving credit. I think voters were probably looking for more intimacy in the photos for this challenge and this may of been too distant for those with that mindset. Very well done and love the Dr. Seuss vibe!

i personally reckon the voters must be overtaken by aliens .. this score is so not right ... go check out nick nixter's candid image and his score .. i reckon his image is so much better than mine and yet the voters didnt .. that score is just one more example that the voters dont know if their bums are on fire and have no idea about art .. this is another .. these sort of scores, when i compare them with the photographs that actually beat them, is starting to creep me out ..
i know its a good score shanny, but i reckon it deserves much better .. :):)xx
and you're lucky you can shoot at the mall .. i've been told to put my camera away about 5 times at the mall we regularly go to .. it'll probably happen another 5 x 100 times as well .. !!:)x

hahhaha! i thought the same thing about the colors :) they make me want to vomit but they also make me want to be a part of that world at the same time.

Avant guarde was the first word that popped into my head when I saw this image. From the thumb you can't really tell what's going on, but it is interesting enough to want to find out.

In many ways this photo is brilliant - the circular design in conjunction with the motion blurred pedestrians gives a great swirling feeling.

Your focal point - the man on the black animal bench - is perfectly positions per the rule of thirds. The colors are very pretty, crisp and clear. A feast for the eyes.

I'm torn about the escalator on the bottom right. On the one hand it is visually interesting, but it is also distracting. I've held my hand over it to see how the photo would look without it and I find it would benefit from the absence of the escalator. However, I realize there was probably nothing you could do about it without cropping too drastically.

The title is good and supports the message of the photo. Also handy in case someone doesn't see the focal point of the image.

That all said, I'm giving it an 8. Hope other voters appreciate the quirkiness of this excellent composition.

The first time you receive a VCE comment, randomly choose five (5) images from this challenge (or another challenge) and leave quality, useful comments/critiques like this one. Make sure to mention good things as well as bad things. Then, see how many you receive in return over the next few weeks. Make sure you copy this VCE notice at the end of each comment.
