Challenge: Candid (Classic Editing)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Canon PowerShot S30
Location: Oakland section of Pittsburgh
Date: Aug 26, 2002
Aperture: 4.9
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/400
Galleries: Emotive, Candid
Date Uploaded: Aug 26, 2002

This is an old homeless man who can always be found on the streets of the Oakland section of Pittsburgh near where I work. He always has his trademark sombrero, and often wears some very eye-catching outfits while begging.

I chose the sepia look for two reasons. First, I thought that it did a better job of reflecting the man's outlook of life. And in color, the suitcase is red. Very red, actually. I thought that the bright color of the suitcase would have detracted from the subject.

Some contrast in this black and white, but I think there needs to be more contrast between the subject's skin and the pavement. Good emotion! 8 Swash

nice job---this picture portrays quite a bit of emotion. i wonder what it would have looked like as a straight black and white? also i would have liked to see just a tad more headroom--but then again you probably had to crop out some unecessary "sidewalk elements!" these are just other ideas---the picture is great as it is! 9--amitchell

Excellent composition. I like the way you have framed the subject, so they look cramped in the amount of space you have left them. It somehow works to establish the mood in this photo -- great job! 9 -- LanSnake

This shot just makes me want to cry. It is such an emotional photo. Definitely "candid", it conveys sadness and quiet desperation. The sepia is perfect, and I think the composition is wonderful. I hope this places high. lhall-10

It's a nice photograph, but I believe it could use a touch more contrast and it may look better cropped a little wider.
