Allex modeled for me again, and the furniture is all from our living room. We loaded up the car and dragged everything down to the beach at dawn on Saturday morning, thinking that we would be alone. We forgot that a lot of people go surfing at dawn, and there were about 100 surfers there by the time we finished. We started with everything set up in the middle the beach, well away from the water. As we were shooting, we moved the chair closer and closer to the water, not noticing that the tide was coming in at the same time. Finally, this wave overtook the chair, and I knew we had the shot. In this shot, Allex is pushing down with her legs to keep the foot stool from floating away, and trying not to laugh. Luckily, the slipcover is washable, and the chair dried after a few hours sitting on our porch.

Outtake:

Convert from RAW, slight crop, spot, clone out the bottom half of the flash duct taped to the lamp, providing the light for the lamp. Neat image. Curves layer, soft light blending mode, 25% opacity. Hue/sat layer to turn ocean and sky a little more blue, and bump the saturation for the blue parts. Resize, sharpen, save for web.

...and I thought people would think I was a little loopy walking around in the supermarket with my camera today... this is AWESOME. I will never feel weird about taking my camera anywhere again. Great shot. Congrats on your top 20 finish!

Brilliant.... must have taken lots of effort to get it all there! How good would it be to have your living room in the the waves?

Hope this wins :)

What we do for DPC! Nice photo - love the fact that the lamp looks like it is on (hopefully it was not actually plugged in!). 6

Anyone who would put their uphostery in salt water to get a shot deserves a great score! 9 from me.

This is great. Can't imagine the work you went through to get this (unless you live right on the beach). Anyway, I like it :)

Not that it isn't already a quite clever idea and photo, but I like the fact that the lamp cord is exposed.

what do your neighbors think of you? Very crative shot, well done! It looks (I know it isn't) slightly tilted, though, maybe you should have shot from a higher angle

DPC sacrifice. Wow -even the lamp is plugged in - that's crazy. This is great ... to be honest I think you'd have a much better image without the stuff in the distance ... just a horizon line without land etc woulc have been much stronger.Another thing to push it into another realm would be to focus more on where the light is coming from - Turn everyhting a bit and shoot into the horizon -- not that you wanna do that again ;P 17-10 = 7

Cool shot and setup. That looks like La Jolla off in the distance. Nicely done. A little more light on your subject would have really made it pop. Still very nicely done.

I knew, I knew, I knew, there had to be one at the beach - I tried for 2 days to convince my girlfriend to go and she flatly refused - Time to get a new girlfriend I say! Well done for all the effort - What ever happens in this challenge you will still have a great pic to talk about for many years - Again well done - I know that took a lot of effort. Looks very CA to me??? Loving the slippers.

When you went to such effort it is a bit ungrateful to criticize, is it not. I think the overall effect is very good. Possibly removing the coincidence of the lamp top and the base of the cliffs would have enhanced this composition. 8

Oh I love that with the water rushing in and the cord being dragged by the tide. ROFL I wonder what people were thinking as they walked past. That's funny.
