I use pencils I to write entries into my journal...I change my mind too often to use pen. <<grin>>
I placed my laden tray caddy-cornered between a western exposed and a southern exposed window for natural light, in late afternoon. The candle was lit for a soft, intimate atmosphere, as well as to signify a time of peace and illumination as I reflect and write. I chose to crop where I did, rather than show the journal to avoid too much clutter. Why roses? To coordinate with the rose pen and lend balance to the composition.

The composition, colors, and lighting all say soothing to me.

This photo has got great atmosphere. The points of the pencils lead you out of the picture somewhat. It might be better if they led you to something else in the picture. The angle of the green box dominates a bit. Still, you can't have everything.

this photo has a nice mood to it. very peaceful. at first i thought some contrast adjustment would make it a bit nicer, but now i think it would just spoil the dusky moody quality i like so much. well done. (6) ~mcmurma

nice colors. the blue in the candle flame is just a little distracting to me. very nice composition. 7

This is pretty. Good focus and lighting. My eyes just keep seeing too many things to look at.

I like the soft pastel colours, which are unusual in this challenge and therefore do stand out. I love the inclusion of the flowers and candle. I am not sure the exact composition works perfectly - it's a little unbalanced from left to right. The top left corner seems a little too empty compared with the rest.

interesting combination to throw in the pink marbled pen with the standard yellow ones and that the pink matches the flowers. the photo seems cropped a little too tightly at the top, i constantly try and scroll to see more. the flame is a little hot, but that's hard to control. -- gr8photos (4)

This is very pretty. I could put this in the den. The pencils are obvious, but subtle. Looks like a dreamy photo. I think it's neat that it has a softer focus because of that reason. The lighting is good. Kind of a harsh glare where the flame is, but understood that it is hard to photograph fire. The angle is excelent and the color is beautiful. Well done. Good luck in the challenge.

interesting triangular composition. like how the soft colors coordinate. not sure I understand time to reflect with a candle and pencils, but that's just a personal observation.

The association of the pencils with the meditative scene is rather lost on me. You used pencils because that's what the challenge said but a book, poem, music score would have made a better association. It doesn't matter (and won't reflect my score), just an observation. This is a very nice image, nice composition, lovely color scheme, mood invoking. I find the diagonal of the open tray and the pencils a little too harsh and jarring with the mood/tone of the rest of the composition which seems to call for soft lines and soft curves. Not sure I'm conveying my thoughts well here. 6 for now will revisit this later. Journey

Very romantic feel to this picture. The story I see behind this is someone sitting down to write a love letter to their husband or boyfriend who is off or some reason. Nicew lighting, nice feel.

I suspect you are going to get some grief because this isn't a "high impact" shot, but I love it. Beautiful composition, colors and mood. Very nice! lhall
