Hey Betsy, here is a tutorial on how to use Save For Web in PS for challenge submissions. It will allow you to get both file size and image size up to the max limits. I hope this helps :).

I did try to size it 640x640 but the file size was still too large (500kb) --so after much debate, I submitted this b/c it was 148kb. With the size restriction at 150kb, how do you get a large, detailed photograph? I used "Size for web" in PS Elements..

Interesting colours and lines.
01/24/2007 10:45:45 PM
i imagine this image has potential, and i imagine you do, as well. however, i think you owe it to yourself to check out the tutorials related to preparing images and sizing them for these challenges...
01/24/2007 05:34:36 PM
This is too small. Use all the pixels they give you! :)
01/24/2007 12:49:32 PM
too small...
01/23/2007 06:25:48 PM
At 315x210 pixels, this image is far too small to do well in a challenge.
I'd love to see this tree in person, as it has so much character.
01/23/2007 02:06:53 PM
You have what looks like it could be a good shot here, but the photo itself is too small to see the detail that would make it great. Try to use the maximum size allowed for your entries.
01/22/2007 11:41:39 PM
I wish you would use full size for you image. This has some lovely lines and nice colors, but it is only a little larger than a thumbnail on my monitor. It is impossible to judge the quality of the image.
01/22/2007 05:14:35 PM
too small
01/22/2007 12:32:22 PM
size is everything!
01/21/2007 11:05:35 AM
This is an intersting shot but too small. Read the tutorial here at DPC about sizing images.

Nice shot, from what i can see.
Why bother entering it if it's so small?
01/19/2007 01:39:38 PM
Very pretty image, wish it was larger though!
01/18/2007 05:19:32 PM
Too small to technically analyze, colors look nice though
01/18/2007 12:20:39 PM
Nice shot..too bad the file is so small

too small!
01/16/2007 05:32:01 PM
Nice idea, but imho photo is too small and the tree trunk in the background interferes with the forms of the maple branches in the foreground. Maybe if you moved a bit to the right that tree trunk would disappear, or if you opened the f-stop up wide you could have blurred it out of existence.

Would like to see at optimum resolution, The colors look interesting though.
01/16/2007 12:57:10 PM
Not large enough to evaluate ( 640 pixels is recommended )

( 1 )
01/16/2007 12:21:20 PM
Would've loved to see this larger, try to always use the max. size available.
01/16/2007 10:12:20 AM
now this would be great photo only if it is bigger, sorry :-)
01/16/2007 02:29:38 AM
Very nice autumn shades.....
01/15/2007 07:36:19 PM
I REALLY wish this had been a little bigger so I could have gotten a better look, I may have scored it a bit higher.
01/15/2007 06:30:47 PM
Lovely color and intriguing lines with an interesting subject. Unfortunately, its presented too small to see detail and accuracy of focus. Check one of the tutorials in the "learn" section or ask for help in resizing in a forum.

why so small? you're definitely hurting your score by not using the extra size allowance given in this challenge ... it's hard to see any details in your photo ...
01/15/2007 11:41:01 AM
Too small to evaluate properly.
01/15/2007 05:35:58 AM

Beautiful tree, nice composition. Wish it were a wee bit larger though.
01/14/2007 06:38:01 PM
Way to small.
01/14/2007 06:36:16 PM
This one would definitely have benefitted from using the full 720 pixel width that we are allowed in this challenge. Also darkening the whole background would make the colors look richer.
01/14/2007 01:18:04 PM
there's a great shot there but it's too small!
01/14/2007 11:09:11 AM
too small to see the details.
01/14/2007 08:06:55 AM
great composition. Image a little too small for detail view but the colors are good.
01/13/2007 11:01:09 PM
It would be nice if it was bigger so we could see it
01/13/2007 02:14:24 PM

the photo is too small - it´s hard to see any detail - 5
01/13/2007 12:52:11 AM
Wow awesome pic but it needs to be larger
01/12/2007 11:59:08 PM
Lovely composition, but I think the tiny size of this image seriously weakens it. I'm giving it a 5, but if I could see more detail, I might very well have rated it far higher.
01/12/2007 09:16:15 PM
Wish it were bigger. Has lovely colors and a pretty decent composition.
01/12/2007 07:00:56 PM
Why so small?
01/12/2007 06:16:34 PM
this looks undersized, 720 is the max, looks like a beautiful pic...5
01/12/2007 04:47:45 PM
Another one I would like to see in a larger size - I think this had excellent potential but due to the size, it is difficult to make out details.
01/12/2007 01:53:36 PM
Too bad it's so small. I sure wished this was bigger so I can see more the details.
01/12/2007 10:26:53 AM
Sure wish this was sized to the maximum permitted size to see the real beauty of this shot.
01/12/2007 01:44:12 AM
Your image is too small. It probably would have been stunning if it were larger. 5
01/12/2007 12:10:43 AM
uh oh. not enough pixels, your score is going to suffer. Take advantage of the whole 640 pix next time.
01/12/2007 12:09:44 AM
Ah.. great shot, too bad it is so small, I know the vote scores will reflect that. The trouble is, this small it is too hard to see what resolution you actually have. Still.. nice shot. Hope after the challenge you can post a bigger version of it.
