Hello from the Critique Club:

First, I really like your take on an often used subject, it has a nice freshness to it. The composition and perspective are excellent, the use of the right-hand rail to lead the eye into the infinite horizon works perfectly for me. I do wish a bit more of that rail was visible in the photo leading towards that top corner, but it works very well as is. I think the use of natural light is great here as it gives almost a tracer light up the rails, helping to guide the eyes as well.

The focus is spot on, on that wooden platform at the beginning of the photo, though I am of two minds about its use (the platform) - in general it makes an excellent point for the eye to begin its travel down the track, and is used very well for that. On the otherhand, taking infinite in consideration, it also serves to cut off the repetitive aspect of the train tracks, and thus removing some of that infinite nature, ie: no beginning & no end. I didn't think of this point of view with my submission either, but it was pointed out and I find it a valid thought.

I really enjoy the detail and contrast shown between the smooth but worn wood and the crumbly dirt & stones - it helps solidify depth in the photo - there are only a few major players in this image and your attention to all of those details really shows. This is an excellent photo. Well done.

Excellent composition of a common interpretation. Outstanding.

I really like the way rail runs along the edge of the frame. That is a unique perspective. If you had rotated the image a half degree or so it would have been perfectly on the edge. Well done.

to heaven or hell... hmm.. i would venture to guess that this doesn't travel to either. it probably travels out from the city, through some rural countryside, and then to another city and a new train station.

i could go on to explain that heaven and hell are the result of purely abstract thought. conjured up and believed. their existence is relative to the individual.

i'm not knocking your photo.. i am just having some fun.. i can be sarcastic because i'm not allowed to vote on this pictures. i would have to pay to give you a 5-6 rating. only because there are a few photos already in this particular challenge that have wowed me. so i'm biased :-/

You've achieved one of the more interesting versions of this somewhat cliche subject matter. I'm very fond of this sort of composition when dealing with rail road tracks, it's not the same old "down the middle" shot. I have to mention the wood in the foreground, very nice touch, it adds a visual "anchor" to the shot, giving the eye a solid starting point. Nice work!

I like this composition but I think the rail on the right needs to be in the frame..

The cropping down the right hand side, right along the track, is very effective indeed. Great idea in general, and particularly well executed.

I really like the angle of this shot, I like how the tracks lead your eye to the top right corner, however I don't care much for the brown border with this shot. 7
