I like my job as an environmental specialist. I was a tree huggin' teenager who would carry the same brown paper lunch bag to school until it would fall apart - very popular thing to do in high school let me tell ya! I'm not a radical freakazoid (i.e. I hardly ever chain myself to trees or lay in front of bulldozers :) but I believe we have a responsibility to tread as lightly on the Earth as possible and to be good stewards of the environment.

Took this outside (yup - you guessed it - the middle of the road again - liked the texture & color). Rainy day did not do much for the hairdo! My vision was originally b&w but I ended up liking the quiet colors.

Shot in RAW - raw conversions. Elements - levels, selective color, blur, burn, dodge, minor cloning, unsharp mask, crop, stroke, save for web.

Wonderful angle and perspective. Rainy/overcast day has given this perfect diffused light. Love the post work blur too as it has added a fantastic DoF dimension. Go Aimee, congrats on 4th place! :)

Aimee, congratulations on another high finish and an honorable mention. Good portrait, fitting pose, expression, eye contact, props. Thanks for your care of the Earth. Blessings from your "arts & crafts" kindred spirit.

Congratulations. Great colors and it's amazing how important a toe can be. It somehow grounds you and represents your goals in an earthy sort of way.

WOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!! killer shot woman. Love the perspective, can't even imagine how to be successful taking a self portrait from that perspective in the middle of the street. You are so talented and creative. I can't think of anything to improve in this image. I really had to look to see that you were sitting in a chair. I read somewhere that we are simply borrowing the earth from our children, not an exact quote but near...and that's so true. Thank you for the work you do :-)

Congrats on 4th! I really liked this one too (too) :)
Thought the same about the foot, but then thought, no, that's appropriatly 'earthy', like it.

I love the shot Aimee, although I think I would have hid your foot as it sorta stands out a bit.

I think the quiet colors pass along the message much more nicely than B&W would have. Another very well done shot, my dear. You do such nice work, both in your profession and with your photography!

congrats on top 5. I gave this an 8. I think the only thing radical and freakazoid is to ignore environmental concerns, like a certain administration that shall remain nameless.

I'm not voting on this challenge, but I wanted to comment on your picture.

I love this shot! Nice perspective. My only comment would be to have shot the picture in a more 'natural' setting: running water, field, forest, or something along those lines. I have a feeling this will be under-rated as it doesn't have that DPC 'look,' but I wanted to let you know that I like it!

I'm getting my degree in biology and hoping to place part of the emphasis on conservation. We should talk ;)

I really like the idea behind the photo, it took me a minute to figure out you are sitting on a stool. Great expression and I like the bare feet but I feel there is just a little something missing to make this a very powerful photo.
Best of luck, in the end I gave this a 9
