Wow, you talk about hard, this was it. I have great appreciation for the photographers who photograph food. For one I couldn't get the hens to look right and the stupid legs popped out and made it look funny. No, they weren't raw. They were very tasting and moist. I spent about $35.00 on the props, but will use them again come thanksgiving.

I would recommend sticking some honey butter glaze on top of the chicken while it is baking.

Rice-Stuffed Cornish Hens
3/4 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup butter or margarine, divided
3 cups cooked rice
3/4 cup raisins
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
3 tablespoons honey
2 tablespoons lemon juice
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
6 Cornish game hens(about 20 ounces each)

In a skillet, saute onion and celery in 3 tablespoons of butter until tender; reomve from the heat. Add rice, raisins, walnuts, honey, lemon juice, cinnamon, salt and pepper; mix well.

Stuff hens. Place on a rack in a large shallow baking pan. Soften remaining butter; rub over skins. Bake, uncovered, at 375' for 1 hour or until the juices run clear.
Yield: 6 servings.

Thank you all for your comments.

I know it is a bit busy, but think about it, isn't thanksgiving a busy time with food all over and a cluttery mess through out the house? My house is..we have stuff everywhere.

I guess it didn't do as bad as I thought it would do.

I love these! Making them part of a fall still life was a great idea, although it makes the image a little busy. The lighting doesn't do justice to the food here; the glare is a bit overwhelming.

I commend your idea but it seems a little too busy for me.

This is a nice idea, but I don't know where to look! The color palette is very similar (oranges/yellows/browns) throughout the composition, which makes it difficult to know where to focus. Perhaps just a single cornish hen and a few gourds and things would have helped in that regard.

Too much other clutter. The hens easily get lost in the wide array of other things in the shot. I think the food looks good, and the setup was well thought out, but it turns out way too busy for my personal taste. There are pumpkins, and sunflower patterns, which alone don't go well together. Your focus and clarity seem good, and the colors are good too. ~Heather~

Yum, those look delicious! I've only had Cornish Hen once in my lifetime and it wad delicious too.

As for this shot, wow, very busy. Lots of different things going on. the hens, the plate, the background. The hens end up just blending into the shot instead of being highlighted. The light from the side is also a tad bright to me but that could be my monitor too. If there wasn't so much going on in the background I would rate this much higher, as is, it starts at a 5

Looks like a nice Thanksgiving meal. The hens look a little oe A little paprika sprinkled on them would give them more colour. I understand the Autumnal theme, but I think it's a little overdone. Imho this picture needs to be less cluttered. Simplify.
Still nice though.

Looks very inviting, and wow what a lot of work. There is so much going on in this shot I found it a little hard to focus on what is being presented. There is little definition to the actual hens in the shot. I would have left more space around the platter and chosen one theme to use as props,, the gourds and leaves or the crockery.6

These look very good! Must've taken forever! The light is pretty good, and I like the presentation of the fowl - but I do find the photo overall to be a bit busy. There is a huge riot of color over on the left side that makes it seem a little out of balance. Leaving that left corner empty with just the black background may have toned down the business - particularly since the plate looks highly decorated. I think a follow through with the black as the background would've worked best as well - there are a few 'wood' background areas. Still a fantastic shot, very impressive. 8

wow... giving a 9. My only real issue is lighting. Perhaps more from left, if but to highlight. Was it yummy ?

Good Points: At first I was thinking 3, too cluttered, but it kind of works I think, I would expect to see this kind of thing in an old cook book, a traditional one. Composed well, and great colors. Very seasonal
Bad Points:Perhaps slightly too much going on..and would have left out the china.
Final Score:8

IMHO this shot is WAY to busy....I don't know where my eye is supposed to stop.

Awesome focus and wonderful colors but way to busy...(did I say that already?)

Lots of color, but maybe just a little too busy. The eyes are wandering looking for a focus and it's hard to stop on just one thing, even though the hens are obviously the main attraction. It looks like a big family feast, and a lot of work went into both the preparation and the presentation of the shot. The angle isnt bad, and I could see this accompanying the recipe, I just think it needed to be a little less cluttered.
