Challenge: After the Game (Basic Editing III)
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 ED
Location: My basement
Date: Oct 23, 2006
Aperture: F/14
ISO: 200
Shutter: 0.8 sec
Galleries: Humorous, Still Life
Date Uploaded: Oct 23, 2006

This was fun, the first time in years that I've set up rather than "found" a shot. Living in the Boonies, as I do, I didn't have the option to shoot a major arena or anything like that, so I went to the other extreme and shot in my basement.

Playing with the "game" part, wherein the game was strip poker. I'd been thinking about this all week, and started out including chairs, all the clothes, and a pile of aces next to the guy's chair, but settled on this tighter shot since it was less complicated.

Post-proc was pretty simple. A levels layer, a hue/sat layer, NeatImage, and Smart Sharpen.

great image ..... graphic ....... but hey, where have the players gone!
10/31/2006 08:05:32 AM
well, this is not exactly a "sporting venue", even if "the game is over and the players and people have gone home" (gone home??).
Anyway, good shot.

interesting shot, a bit too crowded. One or two well chosen elements would have had a stronger impact. Nice shot, nevertheless!!

A good idea but the lighting seems to let it down. The cards being more of a focal point would help I think: 6

Nice idea, I like the detail of the reflection of the cards in the glass.

Very clever composition. Nice lighting. Good humour.

great idea !

This is only loosely shoehorned in via a title. I can understand the concept, but it's a little vague at best without the title.

6 - I wish there were fewer items, too many distract, it looks too staged. I wish this wonderful idea was executed in a more natural way.

What "venue" is this?
10/26/2006 09:54:33 PM

An excellent take on the the challenge and very nicely executed... good job!

Nice try, but I won't be drawn in with cheap/taudry imagery. There's no stadium here! (Can I borrow this for a few days?)

I see the point of the shot, so I get it. I'm not sure how this will fly with the dpc voters. Either way, your lighting is good, focus and composition. Good luck in the challenge.

Clever idea. Nicely done.

I like the concept, a lot. maybe just a tad too dark in a couple areas where a little detail would have helped the overall picture.

Well, this isn't your typical sporting venue (not MINE at least, darn it!), but I think it does technically fit and it's certainly a fun, well-done shot :)
