Challenge: Something Old (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot S30
Location: Spare room, My house, Sandbach, Cheshire, UK
Date: Jul 29, 2002
Aperture: 4.6563
ISO: Auto (probably 50)
Shutter: 1/8
Galleries: Vintage, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Jul 29, 2002

It was as I sat at my PC listening to MP3s that it ocurred to me what old item I'd like to photograph. The B&W is straight out of the camera. I cropped, level and curve adjusted and sharpened fractionally in photoshop.

I'm happy you did so well on your first entry. Brunswick is certainly an old label. I had a few..some rubber(pre vinyl). Don't know if son used them for skeet practice or not> Betty

The black and white does this subject very good.

would look good on the wall of a record store or in a bar. Nicely done. Could perhaps do with the contrast being stretched a bit further to accent the grooves ?

great composition and I like the lightness gradient. good contrast between detailed and plain.

of course your going to get comments about the "shine" in the upper porton of the photo. DISREGARD THOSE, for those people don't know what art is... if you would have taken a pic of a record, no shine, big deal... boring... what you have done is above average. 8

Cool shot, very nice focal range! The glare is perfect, no matter what anybody else says. I try to not compare other shots, but here's an exception. The other record shot is on the turntable, much better "interest" to me. On the other hand, this shot is SOOO much clearer....(I ended up giving you both the same score). I don't know which is better, maybe on the turntable, but not turning? 8 Swash

Excellent technically, and in composition. The only reason that I have not rated the picture higher is that the title "forces" the viewer's mind to think old. I much prefer to have my mind arrive at the notion of oldness in its own time.

This is hard one. I gave it a 9 only because I viewed the rest. This is still excellent with highlights and depth of field. Really awesome shot.

the way you shot it makes it look new. if it wasn't for the label, i'd think it was a cd.

I like that you snipped off the bottom of the label, showed the ridges with soft lighting and make me feel as if I'm removing it from the jacket with the angle. Beautiful and peaceful...as befits the lullaby.

Nice composition - almost abstract and yet so recognisable. I was talking to a teenager recently about playing songs at the wrong speed... she didn't know what I was talking about. CDs only play at one speed, she said scornfully.

Does this bring back memories if my childhood. Sit'n round the phonograph player listnen to records. Excllent composition and lighting angle to highlight the groves in the vinyl. My ten pick this week.

I really like this photo-- artistically it is just great. I know the record is old, but the photo doesn't really emphasize that aspect of it. --7-- sohr

This – for me – is an easy 10… I think it works really well, technically superb – I don't think even the purist's will find too much wrong – my opinion, but the DPCer's are a diverse set of people. Composition, again, up there with the top pictures in the set…

What a perfect record! I really like the way you used the light in this picture. Black and white was the perfect choice, too.

very nice! i like the composition (although i would've considered cropping the label both at the bottom and the left) and the lighting on the vynyl showing of the grooves. nicely done. -- gr8photos (9)

I really like the way this is framed. I almost think it needs to be just a hair to the left though, to feel more balanced to me. I really like the bw. karmat

GREAT! Great lighting, focus, and mostly the cropping! I love the way the photo displays the different textures of the album. Great work. Is this in b/w or color...if this is the color version,,,then this is truly a great photo!! (Even if in b/w, it's still good) 9

Nicely framed shot. Light is just right. Unfortunately, the subject does not "look" old. In fact, it is in better condition than my Beetles albums.
