My first shot that actually uses a real mirror. Pulled out an old one from the scrap heap. Looking at the image again I think I oversharpened some areas. In any case the setup which was taken in a dark room also consisted of a black cloth in the background. One regular house lamp was used for the lighting, setup as such from the top to bring out the texture of the shell and keep it out of the reflection. Cloning involved to subdue the light reflection somewhat and remove the thin double, even triple looking reflection at the edge of the reflection itself, might have been the mirror itself, not sure if all of them do that when you look at it from a specific angle, but it was the angle I wanted for the shot.

Thanks everyone for leaving their kind comments :)

The first morning the score started out in the low to mid 6's and just kept climbing from there. So thanks for the fun surprise. Really glad this was accepted this well. This is my first ribbon for an advanced challenge.

-----

Sorry. I'm not bitter by the DQ but not too happy about it either. It was a question mark in my mind, should've contacted SC if I had any small doubt.

In any case. I do really appreciate everyone's comments and faves :)
Makes it all worthwhile.

Oh bummer man! So sorry to see this. I love this creative shot. Still a blue to me. I would have done the same thing (of course my shot would not have been so cool in the first place!) never guessing that it might get DQ'd. I guess I'll file this away to be recalled every time I hit the clone button....kind of scary.

I'm sorry to hear about the dq, I hope it doesn't stop you from participating in challenges as often as you do, I really enjoy your pictures, keep it up!

I have to say that cloning out the reflections is something I'd thought be legal too under the advanced editing - but oh well :( sorry man.

anyway, I still think your shot is a beautiful one - worthy of a poster in a dining room wall or kitchen wall. Good work nonetheless! Cheers

That is such a wicked shot! and i am not saying that because i like eggs either.

I love the light coming through the perforations in the shell. Beautiful!

You deserved the blue.

Great shot, and actually (honestly), great cloning to get rid of the reflection too! Just a shame it was viewed as a major element. Still, you have a very nice shot here.

I have never been more proud, or truely sorry for someone, re DPC, as you have handled a situation so very well.
I truely feel for you, and just wanted to say that your image is one of the very "best" I have ever seen, on a DPC site.....
All the best mate, and better luck next time.....

if nothing else it is a great example of how cloning can help a photo.

Great shot!

I can certainly see the reasoning behind the DQ. Shame because this really deserved a ribbon. I had a similar DQ with the previous wierd food challenge and I've learnt a good lesson from it. I hope you will take this in your stride and come back stronger.

SORRY

I'm sorry for the DQ. I think they should make new and better cloning rules. It seems that the photographers don't know how much they may clone.

Congrats on your ribbon. The yellow tones are really striking against the black. The symmetry is very pleasing and it is nice and sharp, but not too sharp, not to my eye anyway.

Great symmetry and balance. The horizon seems just a tad tilted to the left but it could very well be just an optical illusion. This ime is clean and sharp and should do quite well in this challenge. Not as abstract as most poeple would probably think of but the mirrored reflection creates this illusion. Great job!

Abstract as I perceive abstract? Literal, but presents well as an abstract.
Do I like it? Quite like the effect and the lighting on the shell in particular.
Technicals? Good - pure black background is good.
