Took this the same day as Cold Comfort. This is the mother who's back you see. Its a tight crop but it conveyed what I wanted. She did have a sense of humor.

Wish people had better calibrated monitors. Oh well, life goes on...

Thank you for the amazing amount of comments and compliments. They really are appreciated!

Wow, I have to admit, I'm surprised to find out that she's real! I didn't vote on this one but when I looked at it, I thought it was fake (or stuffed). Nice shot!

I'm surprized it didn't have an even higher placement but top 70 in this category is nothing to smirk about! Great image - one of the 10's for the challenge. Congratulations.

Looks great on my monitor Courtenay! Love the tight composition and the perfect dark tones. Is this one you are entering in a show/competition?

Congratulations for a fine finish in the challenge.

WOW - I'm so glad to see this was yours, it's an exceptionally fantastic photo, National Geographic cover quality to say the least.

Very very very nicely photographed - I had this pegged as top ten material, stinking voters didn't get it though :(

One of the best animal portraits I've ever seen. But I'm afraid it takes a well-calibrated monitor for the viewer to appreciate the fine detail and textures in this photograph (I viewed it on both calibrated and uncalibrated monitors). I hope it doesn't get voted down because of this; that would be a shame!

Wow, one of the best monkey/gorilla shots I've seen in this challenge so far. Almost freaky how close it is, but rad. Nice colors - just blue and yellow.

Massive in your face image...WOW...WOW...WOW...This would have to be one of the very best shots that I have ever seen of a gorilla close up. Wonderful cropping, wonderful textures, wonderful expression, and a WONDERFUL IMAGE. This could be on any of the very top nature/animal magazines like National Geographics. I also love his smile. Thank you for sharing such a great photo.

This is a cool shot. I really like the close up 'in your face' tight framing. There is interesting symmetry in this centered tight frame. Neat tones in the blacks, and it makes the eyes really stand out. Yes a very cool shot. It would look great hanging on a wall :-)

At first I thought the tonal range in this was too "down", but the more I look at it the more I like it. I wonder, if you'd used the sponge tool to saturate the eyes a tad more.... Fine image!

Wow! Incredible photo, I love this! The subtle lighting is superb to bring out the detail where it should be, but leave some mysteriousness to the gorilla. The eyes are stunning, and the grin gives a delicate side to this guy (or girl). An incredible capture all around.
