Challenge: Duotones (Classic Editing)
Camera: Toshiba PDR-M71
Location: KItchen Table
Date: May 24, 2003
Aperture: F/8
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/4 sec.
Galleries: Still Life, Black and White
Date Uploaded: May 24, 2003

Backlit using a regular incadescent clamp light, mounted to the underside of my kitchen table. White poster board taped to wall and also used under the vessel. Decided to do something in silouette because I felt it lent itself well to duotone. I liked the soft shadow on the poster board. At first I wasn't plesed with the relection on the underside of the masher but now I thinks it adds to the shot. I'm sure someone will mark me down for originality, given the Kitchen Art challenge (which I didn't enter). Post processing: rotated 1 degree ccw to fix horizon, cropped, auto-levelled, and greyscaled.

Great sihouette. I really like your use of frames, and the smooth gradients on the floor.

Nice! I'm a big fan of silhouettes. I like this a lot. This would look nice in a restaurant.

I picture this in my head with the bright light in the middle and substantially darker on both sides, like putting some kind of "v" directly behind the vase so that the light on both sides of it was diverted, so it wasn't quite so intense. Maybe if you could've made it where it looked like the light was coming OUT of the vase it would've done more for me. Just thoughts though. Its really a solid picture as is. Bob

Bob,

These are the kinds of comments that make a photographer strive for something better.

Thanx,

Bueno! I think this is the only silhoutte picture I have seen; a marvelous choice of setup. Utensils don't terribly interest me, but in this case subject matter seems secondary to meeting the challenge and the good use of lighting.

Very nice idea but I think a bit too dark and maybe a bit out of focus? Good composition and border.

This works for me. Ich habe es gern! The utinsels are sharp, but the pot is just a bit fuzzy. Still, a wonderful, evocative image!

Simple, but very interesting. Good lighting -- effective, but not too harsh.

The backlighting makes the utensils so much more interesting than a conventional front-lit still life. Well thought out.

Great tone and lighting. Works great. A little imagination needed, but the shapes are so simple that the brain just registers them right away
