This was taken as my son was swinging at the park. He was deeply engrossed in a game of catch between two other boys. I adjusted the colors in the channel mixer, then colorized it until I had added just a touch of warmth. Cropped, resized.

My other shot was a cemetery. This one, I felt, was the better picture technically, but the cemetery wouldn't have been a kid pic. :-) But, "Oh, well" as my son says.

FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

Hi, Karma,

I really hope people didn't give you lower scores because this is a "kid pic". There's no need for that. This is a beautiful picture of your son, and a very good entry to "Duotones" - I like it very much!

I don't have that much to say about the photo, as I think it is quite good the way it is. I like the soft focus. The crop is perfect, the square format is a great choice here. The little boy's expression is wonderful to look at. I bet he's going to treasure this picture when he grows up.

IMO, the colouring could be a little more towards the orange rather than the reddish tone (but that's just my preference). I think sepia is a good choice for this photo, but not so much the reddish tint.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

I love the duotoning, and the softness of this, but most of all, the expression! Such a serious little face. This is a shot to be proud of, for sure. Composition and lighting are great.

Lots of cute kids in this challenge. I guess a lot of people like duotone shots of people. I am not really big on portrait-style shots myself, but this one is well framed and the toning on it is good. Focus is nice and clear on the kid and the background fades into obscurity as it ought for something like this, becoming appropriately neutral.

Very sweet. I hope people aren't voting you down cause it's a kid pic. Nice mood, and good choice of color.

This is cute... I like it in sepia. Good use of contrast and DOF. Even though it is adorable, it lacks WOW IMHO. Still a nice photo. -8-

Child's deep thought: Ice cream or cake and ice cream? hmmm! Great capture! 9

Not sure that a pure black and white wouldn't have been more effective - the tone you've chosen gives a very odd cast to the skin-tones, especially around the mouth area. Nice study though.

Nice portrait. I'm not crazy about the tone (I would have opted for a little less red) but overall I like the effect very much. Composition is outstanding. Well done.

Very nice image. Definately has that look of deep thought to his eyes. I just love the way little boys seem to be able to express that so well. 8

Focus seems a tad soft. You caught a lovely expression and great composition.

Too much red tone in it. :( I think it also needs to be a little darker overall, but not sure.
