went hunting around in my head for the right picture-
drew a small scetch as i have been doing latly to really establish in my head the image i want to create (if i loose track of the origional idea i just look at it and head back in that direction).
went hunting around for the right place i wanted open prairy...but i didn't want it to be another shot at the chicago botanic gardens...so somewhere else....i love the settings around the forest pre. where i wound up shooting it and so i went for that......
bumped around in the woods for along time taking pics. here and there in small open patches of high grass.....
finnaly came back to the strating point where i and my friend "the stranger" in the photo, Charles had seen this great little skull (racoon if i'm not misstaken), so i proped it up with the jaws under it and we took another round of shots...thoses were beauties everything worked the light the sky the exposure, i was so pleased i'm still really nuts about the whole thing wether it places highly or not....anyway that was the setting...not some place in AR.

here's the editing-
raw adj.-
custom WB (temp-8000 tint-+36)
expo.adj.(-0.10)
shadow (15) brightness (94) contrast (+100) saturation (-69)
and a white vignette added to very corners of the shot.
------end of raw now the fun stuff----
PS edits (some of the steps were repeted i'm not listing the douplict steps)-
*channel mixer to mono.
*made doup. layer
*layer from backround gaussian blur applied
*another layer from backround curves
*set layer to multiply
*merg vis.layer with doup. layer
*another doup. layer made
*gauss.blur applyed
*set layers at diffrent opasities
*These steps were repeted at random till i got the right amount of cut in the image and the right amount of softness
*then flattened
*hue and sat. to colorize gave it the blue tint.
*curves to entire image
*resized, enlarged canvis several times to make blk, bluegray, blk boarder
saved and submitted

it seems like alot but its not to much i toyed with the idea of giving it a festival gothic glow but didn't like it so messed around on my own and got i think a better resoult...or at least more satfaction then just pressing 1 button......i still like FGG tho.

thanx in advance for all the views votes and comments.

** Greetings from the Critique Club **

This shot is full of emotion and tells a story. I really like that in a photo. Great angle and composition. Only real negative is that it does not meet "High Contrast" - the tones are all in the mid-range. More of a gray scale portrait than High Contrast. Also - the skull looks a bit blown out.

For me, the values seem very similar as opposed to high contrast

I really like the idea of the photo and I consider it high contrast for sure. It has to much of a softness to it for my taste.

Nice contrast between the ground and subject.

I'm really glad I came back to this shot. I love the tones and solitary feel to this image. Great composition and terrific contrast. My only slight criticism is that the highlights appear to be a tad blown out in spots. Very strong entry. Bumping up.

Heida?
Love it.
Could be yet another ribon.
Or maybe it's not Heida, but an imposter...
Good luck to whoever took this great image.

The main spike(s) on the histogram for this shot are all in the middle. For a high contrast they should at either end of the histogram

Composition is a little bit too cluttered for me.
