You're looking at plain old Elmer's glue squirted onto my desk at work. I illustrated the cow in pencil, then just filled in the lines with glue.

Once again, I waited until the last minute and had to rush. The lighting could certainly be improved, and the glue was a little harder to handle than I imagined. It wasn't quite viscous enough and kept closing up the details. Oh well. I thought the idea was cute, so I'm entering anyway. Hopefully the voters will see the cow!

Processing: Crop, levels, shadow/highlight, slight curves adjustment, and desaturated overall. Most of the work was just an attmpt to emphasize the highlights on the "milk" and smooth out my uneven lighting.

For those who didn't see the cow, look here.

Dang, I didn't see the cow at all until I sat back just now and it popped out at me...great shot! Congrats on the top 10! I wish I'd given you more than the 7 I did during voting. :(

Pfft! I'm not blessed with the type of sophisitcated lighting equipment that might be perceived as an unfair advantage here. That was an ordinary rectangular softbox. ;-)

Well done Shannon! A very original idea for the subject, the composition is good, and using the Elmer's glue was simply brilliant. BTW, I saw the cow right off.

I agree with you that the lighting could have been a little better. Is that an octagonal softbox reflecting in the bottle?

Anyway, your entry is the only one that I felt compelled to comment on. Congrats on the top-ten finish! It could easily have been a ribbon winner.

Should have placed higher but I guess you lost out because...no splash! Amazing take on the challenge and exceptional artistry/creativity. One of my picks for the top three. Course, I'm not one for splash shots so what do I know...

I didn't vote in this challenge, but I wonder how many voters clicked looked at your shot without really seeing it. I thing you went out on a limb with the abstract cow, and luckily most people got it. Wonderfully creative! If I had the brain-power to come up with something like this, I would have made it much more obvious, and doubtlessly ruined it. Should have placed higher, IMO, but you can't always cater to the low IQ folks such as myself. :-( Congrats on the top ten though!

I'm such a dumb ass. I didn't even see the cow until I was looking at the list of the top winners in the challenge and the thumbnail caught my eye. I often just have the computer present me with the next large image and so I completely missed it. I guess I get the DPC Darwin award. DUHHHHHH

Perhaps one of the most outstanding abstract and puzzle image in the realm of DPC. It is an abstract because its appearance lays out the main patches of black and white. The puzzle comes in its inversion to yield to the patient viewer the bosom of its essence. You must look twice, once in abstract (as is) and again in the inverted form.

Shannon: this shall be a very much discussed image because many viewers did not come back for the second look. And when they get it they will wonder how they ever missed it. You have my full respect.

Congratulations on your 7th finish.

I like the concept. Looks like a spotted cow! The bubbles somehow take a bit away from the photo IMHO... Not sure why...
But the falling drop is a winner. very well executed and composed, and the lighting is good too! Well done!

7 - I like this shot and the 'clean' and 'sharp feel' and the style. Either my eyes can't see an 'abstract picture' here (maid/cow) or there isn't one (apologies if there is), so, Criticism; if you have used a dropper or something to create that pattern, if you could have made something looking like a cow (not easy), would have made this a real stand-out shot, in my opinion.

You can think my niece for showing me the cow. I *knew* something was hidden there, I just couldn't see.

Nice work, and good "illusion" as well. Hope people look at it long enough to "see" it.

(is that glue, or really milk?)

Coming back through and decided to bump this up a bit. I didn't see the cow the first two times I viewed it.... happened to notice it in the thumb and had to come back and comment. Very creative. I hope others take the time to actually see the cow... good luck!
