These Chocolate Dutch Rabbit babies are 4 weeks old. This picture took two days and 2 full memory cards to finally get all 8 babies in a decent shot. I hope to get a good score for all my efforts...and don't get penalized because of the cute factor.

I lined a box with white paper, lined them up the best I could and shot away. The lighting made them warm so they started falling asleep. I wanted their eyes open in the picture, so I would have to shut off the light for awhile and roust them up.

Post-processing:

Adjust Shadows/lighting

Cloned out seams that I had in the background and some dark spots.

Healing tool for a couple hot pixels that my camera has developed.

Auto levels

Dodge tool to lighten the two babies in the back, dark places on the ears and some shadows underneath the ones in the front.

Healing brush tool to get rid of some uneven color areas in the white backgroun.

Slight sharpening, noise clean-up

Crop, resize

Ah, that is just adorable. I gave it an 8 and really thought it would do well. I am so glad it did. Congrats to you !

Thank-you to EVERYONE for your comments and praise. This is my highest rated photo on DPC. I have never been in the top 10 before and I am very happy about that. Not too shabby for still using a 2 MP point and shoot. Hopefully soon, I'll be able to upgrade.

I have re-done this photo and submitted to DPC Prints but i have quite a hurdle to overcome due to my low resolution camera in providing a good quality print. We'll have to see if it will be approved.

As for the bunnies? They are growing like weeds. Anyone in the Billings, Montana area want one of these cute bunnies? You can go to www.verlannahill.com for more information on our rabbitry.

Congrats on your top ten finish. I loved this one and still do. Awesome image. May have to buy it for my daughters room as she is dying to buy a bunny today. Hope you offer prints.

Congrats on the top 10, although I had this one pegged for the blue. Really fantastic job - and infinitely marketable! Sell, sell, sell! :-)

OK THIS DOES IT! That is the most adorable thing I have ever seen. If this doesn't win, then I'm a complete idiot. ON MY GOD -

I just ran across this again and it is still my absolute favorite. If I could vote higher than 10, I would. The whole picture is just spectacular. The focus, the composition. The contrast of their little heads and ears against their bodies which just blends into the background only to be broken up by those little pink noses and feet. AUGHHHHH!!

Beautiful, don't know how you got them to sit still for this shot, nice.

How did you get all of those rabbits to set still?
07/15/2005 12:31:53 PM
A little overexposed? They sure are cute.

Framed a bit too tight for my taste to both sides as a couple of ears are missing but other than that pretty good, I like the lighting.

Wonderful photograph! The arrangment feels funny because the right side is cropped tighter than the left and the overall content slopes down toward the right side of the frame. I just love the little pink noses and how each one is identical. Nice soft shadows and no blown out whites. Nice job.

exposure seems soft especially in the corners ... I would have preferred a sharper shot personally.

Awwwww. . . that is so cute!!! You have composed this so well with the all-white background. And it's very impressive how you have so many animals in one shot, and they are all crisp and clean. Excellent job.

Huge cute factor! The focus is a bit soft however on the FG bunnies, and is sharper on the ones in the back. Overall, still a really pleasant image.

I reminds me of a time my in-laws brought my daughter home on Easter Sunday. I could read her lips through the glass of the car screaming "I got BUNNIES!!!" The nice man on the side of the road told my in-laws that the babies were too young to leave Momma but he would make them a "deal" to take them all! Yeah, right! Mom and 7 babies. What a mess!

Anyhoo, back to your photo, very cute subject, nice out of the box thinking....they could be family and family and family!

I love the subject and the idea behind this capture. The design is a bit chaotic for my taste.

now that is meeting a challenge - not just the DPC "family" challenge, but getting those bunnies to all sit still long enough to get this shot! The white background was an excellent choice.
