Fringed campion is found in rich wooded ravines near the Apalachicola River in the panhandle of Florida. This species is a federally protected Endangered Species. According to USFWS, "residential development and logging are the main problems. The spread of Japanese honeysuckle may also pose a threat. This species apparently always was rare, so the loss of even a few populations threatens the species." The endangered Florida torreya (Torreya taxifolia) occurs in these ravines.

Lovely subject. Well composed. Good detail throughout. Could use a little peaking in the white tips. But very good.

To have found one of these in the wild is an accomplishment unto itself. The composition works well here to emphasize the uniqueness of these blossoms. Sharp focus and DOF really enhance this, too. 10

Very pretty. I really like how the petals are all frilly like that. It is too bad these are endangered. You have a nice DOF here. The background is properly blurred and the subject is nicely focused. Lighting is good. The subject is lit good, and background darkened in nice contrast to the flowers. Great shot. Good luck in the challenge.

Would have done a little levels adjustment to enhance the contrast a bit. 8 as it is still a very beautiful natural looking photo.
