A bunch of salt, an entire container of pepper, and a fair amount of time. I had intended to do it on a white background but did not have paper large enough to accomodate the shot. Hopefully this will be a unique idea/shot. I'd love to finally break 6.0

Hope you enjoy....

Incredible composition and creative idea. I'd love to know what inspired the thought process to come up with this idea! Wonderfully executed.

I remember this shot well from the challenge - I scored it a 9. Outrageously well done. You are obviously a patient man when you want to be! ;-) Great focus, composition, & color. Excellent work and hats off to you for pulling this off. Good thinking to use clear and translucent men. (Congrats on your PB too!)

In you comments you mentioned that you originally were going to use white paper. I personally think the black works better. The salt may have been lost on white paper. This is a great set up. Congratulations.

Good Idea. But, I'd give more points for a mated position, and correct board allignment. ( White is Right - Lower right square is Always white. )

Very cute idea and wow this must have been hard to set up. I like the contrast you get here with the grid board. This image is very clear too. Great job!

Very creative. Perhaps more of the clear chess pieces rather than the cloudy glass as they reflect more of the checkerboard pattern.

You went to a lot of trouble for this shot, 2 extra points for that! If only you had taken this from another angle I think it would have been so much more interesting...

pepper would win, salt would dissolve in the rain...sorry I digress. Good image with strong subject. Nice suttle lighting, I wonder if a lower angle and maybe from a different side angle it would be even better...just a thought.

Maybe a tighter crop on just a few of the peices would have given the image more strength--love the concept though 6
