Thanks again everyone!

You can see a tutorial on the desaturation technique I used by going to the "How'd They Do That?" section of this website for the photo "Rest:"

//www.dpchallenge.com/how.php?HOW_ID=16

In this tutorial, he describes how he got rid of one color. I just did with ALL but one color.

Desaturation is a fun tool to fiddle around with! |

Thanks for answering my question about desaturation, now I can see a wee bit of color in his ear. I think I will play around with this idea now that I know about it. Congrats on your first place win, well deserved.

Wow! Thanks everyone. I think your suggestions below are specific and a good idea. Now that I can spot-edit, I can get rid of those traces of red that appear here and there in earlobes and nostril shadows! I never knew we had so much red all over our skins. And of course, I made a nice print for this couple. They were real troopers.

Very much like the lighting. As a portrait this really works, forget the candy. A little less saturation on the plate of candy would be more natural.

This is just the perfect shot for this challenge. By far my favorite. Excellent work. I love the black and white conversion while keeping the red hue saturation. Awesome!!! Good luck with the challenge!

Sweet, romantic idea! Contrast with the background seems a little weak, esp. for the woman. The "pile" of licorice seems over-saturated (less than clear as the rest of the image). 8 Rob the Swash

One of my favorites of the challenge. I like the desaturation - but the pile..I'm not sure it looks like licorice or worms or something...not exactly appetizing. The poses and faces are, and the clarity is perfect. Great job. 9+

I really hope to see this picture as the winner this week, absolutely fabulous. If you do make this available as a print, you might want to consider redoing the photoshop work with the selection tool to get rid of any sign of red on the people (their earlobes, and lips show a bit of pink, and his nose) I Just love this shot, well done Two thumbs up!

Very "lady & the tramp"-esque. Great use of selective color. Your lighting and exposure are just right (maybe a little bright on the shirts, but not a big deal). Fun personality conveyed by the subjects. Overall excellent.
