I originally shot this using one of my students, but it came across much "darker" than I anticipated so I re-shot it using my husband as the subject. The irony is that he is the kindest, gentlest, most loving man. I used the magic wand tool to select specific areas and then adjusted curves. I cropped, burned, adjusted color balance, adjusted hue and saturation, and cloned out some minor flaws on the sweatshirt and face.

I see the effect you were after, of course, and it does make a nearly mesmerising image. So you have every right to feel you succeeded. I don't find it an appealing or even interesting image, but that's just my taste I guess. The nose shadow seems to detract a bit; looks like a rectangualr hole in his head. So, effective, but not for me. Sorry. 5

Nice job!

The whites of the eyes look over photoshopped.

Compositionally well done within the frame. The subject is off-cente, thats good. I think it would have been leff "flat" and a little more dramatic from a 1/3 profile shot with the lighting coming from the side. Rule of thumb....lighting is ALWAYS more dramatic from the side.

I hope you do well! Bump you up to an 8 :)

Very nice. I like the way the hood melts into the black. I like the composition, off to the right. I like the slight blue cast on the hood. I like the shadows on the face. I know that this wasn't a hurried shot and that a lot of patience and attempts probably went into it. This is an absolute 10. Congratulations on your probable ribbon!
