I really like this photo. Another one where the choice of b&w makes a really dramatic impact (especially in how it highlights the steamed breaths), rather than just choosing b&w because it looks 'cool'.
The backlighting was also well used.
06/12/2005 12:42:04 AM
Great contrast! Love the lighting. EXCELLENT
02/05/2005 04:51:02 AM
Its got the details for sure... this goes to show digital records best in B&W ...Wich makes it more fun for all those that had a hard time using film for it.
02/02/2005 09:44:31 AM
Keep thinking about this shot and coming back to it..so original..didn't enter or vote but would have agreed with everyone else. What I like is the brightness of the light on the subjects in contrast to the dark background. The composition you have used should be put into a text-book and rammed dowmn the throats of aspiring photographers as it adds so much to the shot. deeply impressed.
02/01/2005 08:49:41 PM
Congratulations on a well deserved blue.
02/01/2005 12:31:16 AM
My only 10.
There were a lot of good images here but as soon as I saw this one...
the competition for 1st was over.
Wow. Talk about being in the right position when these guys ran by!
Congratulations x10...you better get a print made of this one and hang that baby up.
(They should allow prints of ribbon winners for the entrants with a ribbon set into the corner!) Congrats again.
Wow.

Jon Pink: your images speak quietly, fluently and with such conviction that very so often you simply blow my mind away with your outstanding work. With this image you invoke the Vangelis, "Chariots of Fire."

But wait, your image divorced from this association carries its own weight of individuality. You are worth special attention for you are indeed one of the outstanding talents here at DPC.

Congratulations on your undisputed blue.
01/31/2005 05:59:59 PM
Congratulations on your first Blue with this wonderful capture of light and movement!
01/31/2005 12:43:30 PM

Congratulations on the blue! What can I say... a really beautiful shot.
01/31/2005 07:23:47 AM
Excellent Jon..you're among my early favorites in this site and this shot is an icing in the cake. You don't have to get a blue to prove that you're good.

This is one of my 2 favorites in this challenge. I gave it a 10. That's the good new -- the bad news is I usually don't pick the winners as my favorites! However, I hope I'm in step with the rest of DPC this time and this one ribbons. Good luck!
01/30/2005 12:56:56 PM
Great composition, looks great in B & W....steam really adds to the photo.
01/30/2005 05:15:39 AM
Awsome candid of runners, I can totally sympathize with the cold morning running experience. Like lighting through the fog in their breaths. Seems a tad oversharpened, but not that noticible, maybe the backlighting on their legs is harsh enough to get that effect. Well done.
01/30/2005 02:56:14 AM
Great Job, I love the back lighting. Not only did you capture three people in motion, faceless. I love the use of B&W in this photograph. Excellent 10
01/29/2005 05:58:17 PM
Returning for comment - Nicely captured stop action shot with great light! B&W was a good choice.
01/29/2005 01:43:25 AM
monochrome is king when one wants to portray feeling. bumping up this magnificent pic. 9
01/29/2005 01:24:22 AM
This is my favorite of the challenge. The action, light, and tones are perfect. My black and white shots are never this dramatic. Great job.
01/28/2005 03:12:29 PM
wow... looks almost like it was done in a studio! The long shadows and the visible breath really shows the brisk morning atmosphere and makes you feel like you're there.
01/28/2005 09:06:04 AM
This is a great shot. You've captured the scene excellently. The treatment is fantastic with all the details, textures and light. Tthe composition is nice but the capture of their breath is what really makes this shot for me. Well Done! Bumped to a 9
01/28/2005 01:09:46 AM
I feel like I am running behind them! Great shot!
01/26/2005 08:51:28 PM
Beautiful light you captured in the runners' breath - 8
01/26/2005 06:27:09 PM
I started out giving this a 9...but Im coming back and giving it a 10. The light is excellent, their breaths really add to the feeling of this shot too. And to top it all off, their shadows are perfect. It is really wonderful as a black and white!
01/26/2005 05:00:40 AM
Real good b&w... like the black background and breath.
01/26/2005 03:42:58 AM
Perfect timing to give you the interplay of light and shadow ... would have been good for next week too.
01/26/2005 02:13:17 AM
great action and clarity
01/25/2005 10:08:20 PM
fabulous. Just love the lighting.
01/25/2005 08:36:34 PM

01/24/2005 07:23:24 PM
Nice stop action, great contrasting lights and darks. 8.
01/24/2005 04:25:27 PM
This is my favorite. I hope you win!
01/24/2005 02:16:14 PM
great shot
01/24/2005 09:58:56 AM
Finr exposure processed nicely. Beautiful image. It makes me wonder though, if the crop is a bit tight.
01/24/2005 09:17:04 AM
great breath patterns , a pity the shadows of the runners are cut - but that's me , I like to follow the lines and see them completed
01/24/2005 07:29:02 AM
I like the feeling of the runners turning a bend, like the whole scen and feeling, looks good in b&w too
01/24/2005 06:02:46 AM
The freezing breath really adds drama to this image. Great Capture!
01/24/2005 02:19:25 AM
Well done
01/24/2005 12:49:31 AM
Awesome. Meets the challenge perfectly. Top 5.
