It was so much fun! And serendipity, and also stupidity on my part...
I had originally planned to do a Challengers poster, with cats jumping in the reflections of the sunglasses, but the prospect of photoshopping tennis rackets into their paws made me so tired that I almost did not submit at all. Then, just a couple of days before the deadline, I realized that a colleague across the hall has long hair and a kind of Frodo-ish face. We had not talked much, and I was a little skeptical that he might think the whole idea was nonsense. But luckily he did not, and he was also about to cut his hair in a couple of days.

I had great assistants scouting for onion rings in the vicinity and helping with the setup and lighting! However, I was so excited about my model’s resemblance to the poster character, that I completely focused on his face while shooting at f/3.2. To my horror, that evening I saw that the hand with the ring, even though it was decently lit, was very out of focus.

Luckily, I had one more day and another kind colleague who was generous enough to “give me a hand.” Two shooting sessions, five people involved, and two sets of onion rings later, the poster was finished just five minutes before the deadline...

Thank you, friends, for your kind votes and comments!! Johnathan, I am not sure about black magic :-), I am just very fortunate to be surrounded by awesome-looking and kind people.

I maybe tend to overthink. :-)

So funny! I really thought it was Elijah Wood on first view. What beautiful eyes your model has. Great job overall.

This is one of those photos that makes me think, "Why didn't I think of that myself?" Brilliant idea, cleverly executed. Light, model, background - simply wonderful

Excellent lighting, a painting-like background, and the perfect expression. Another red on the main page. Congratulations, Elena..

I loved this one. It must have taken some studied precision to so accurately recreate not only the look but also the mood and aura of the original. It also exhibits the thing that most impresses me in your portfolio: human subject control. You have some kind of black magic when it comes to capturing people in ways that are obviously posed yet don't feel even the least bit inauthentic. It's inspiring.

This is really clever and well executed! I would have added a title, to make it look more poster-like, but that’s just me. 8
