Wow - it's not even 24 hours after the rollover and there's already so much response to this photo - that's just great! Thank you all!

Here is Lev's gorgeous original:


To explain: I asked my partner Thomas, user Thamerl, to model for me. I showed him Lev's original and he agreed immediately. We then spent quite some time until I was happy with the lighting and the pose. In between, Thomas also took photos of me in the same pose - and decided to submit his picture too. He thought it would be better to recreate the picture with a female model, while I tried to stay as close to the original as possible. So we decided to each upload our result and see how the voting goes.

By the way, we both found our own pictures pretty shocking - we look so old! But art is more important than vanity... and I love my Thamerl exactly the way he is!

Well done redo!

I do like the softness of the sharpness (is that a thing?) of Lev's eye rather than yours which seems slightly maniacal. But, you did shave your neck, which is nice. :D

This is really, really close to the version of LevT. Closer to the original than any other image in this challenge. Even a bit more dark (especially lower left), more intens, more harsh, which brings it closer to Irving Penn's portraits. Maybe a bit oversharpened (especially visible along the arm)
