Camera: Canon EOS-10D
Location: home
Date: Dec 9, 2004
Aperture: 6.7
ISO: 100
Shutter: 125 - strobes

Selected neck area and applied levels to lighten. Inversed selection and applied levels to darken. Used clone to perfect neck area and ide cable. Sponge to saturate and desaturate and burn and dodge. Levels, curves and one more selection to darken background with levels. UM

Wore black turtleneck around head. head taken earlier in day, printed and mounted on 1/4" plywood.

The challenge for me here is not the effect but rather the very soft lighting needed to have the photo of the head match the image.

Daniel-
This is fabulous, why don't I see the back of the shirt collar. Did you try it with that showing and decide it was better this way, just blacked out? -bob

You are my hero Daniel!
Once again, just remarkable work.
I knew this was yours when I saw it in the "Broken" challenge and I had no doubts at all it had the photographic integrity that is consistent with your other work.

I'm glad you continue to dazzle all of us here with your creativity. This is uncommon work and unusual talent for DPC. It is all too often and to easily dismissed as "Photoshopped" and digital art manipulations. My hats off to you for continuing to share your creativity as you do. When even some of the best photographers are fooled by your techniques, it clearly shows your skills.

"Imagination is more powerful than knowledge"- Albert Einstein

Cheers,

Gringo

I knew something was bothering me ... I don't think the word "Ouch" in the title is necessary. Instead, you could phrase it exactly the way the warning stickers are phrased, and make an even a stronger connection (IMO) to the subject by calling it
No User-Serviceable Parts Inside

I have no suggestions on improving the photo though ... great work : )

Congratulations on your ribbon! I initially gave this a 6 because it was so good that I thought it must have been a major clone job. Then I came back to it right before the challenge ended and bumped it up to a 10 when I realized that the head was a cutout photo. I didn't even notice the IDE cable until I read your description. Great work!

My apologies on giving a very low score on what I assumed to be a faked effect. I shoulda known by the fact that it was approved by the s/c that it was legit. (Still faked IMHO but legit within the guidelines of the rules) I still wouldn't have given it a very high score cause I think it's gimicky (and I don't go too much for gimmicky shots) but it didn't deserve my (one of three) one...
Congrats on the ribbon.

Bumping up, really still does not appeal to me ;-), however being honest with myself, I have to re evaluate my prejudice and look at it with a focussed mind. Knowing the members I'm sure they will score this well.
