[Jan. 27th, 2022 07:33:10 PM]

I waited until last minute again. I wanted to do a squirrel in a cardboard box, and it was getting late. There Was supposed to be a snowstorm coming. And I thought great! Squirrel hiding in a box from the snow. But the problem was, it was a rain sleet mix. It wasn’t coming down quite hard enough to show up on pictures. I slow down the shutter speed, hoping that the squirrel would stay still enough to blur the little bit of moisture that was coming down. The biggest problem was, that I didn’t wanna shoot through the door, because the glass degrades the quality of the photo. So I’m laying on my stomach on the kitchen floor with the back door wide open, and it was freezing!! So I heated the outside world and froze myself for the last 45 minutes with a little bit of light. (there wasn’t enough light from the tiny light in the box)

Thanks for the comments!!

Congratulations
Absolutely a wow image! How you get these squirrels to pose for you is incredible.

Naw — I haven’t tried to tame them. I keep thinking that I could, and it would make things easier. Right now I have to set something out and then wait for them to get used to it and get over the nervousness. That’s why I was laying on the floor for 45 minutes. That was actually a lot quicker than it usually is. Maybe because it was so close to dark, that they were in a hurry to be done…?

this is an amazing shot ..
and after reading your notes i realize just how amazing it is ..
not only to get the squirrel in the perfect pose but getting everything else perfect too ..
i do agree with Gaby about being an insane bunch of ppl .. i suppose being dedicated .. obsessed .. keen .. motivated .. and really really excited by the act of anything would tend to make those ppl look a bit crazy by other ppl's standards ..
my family and friends just dont get it .. why i love photography so much ..
anyway .. CONGRATULATIONS on an incredible shot ... and of course top five .. :)

As I said, can't believe how "obliging" your squirrels are :-). So, so cute. Congrats. Hope lying on the cold floor didn't give you a cold ... The longer I am a photographer, the more I know that we are truly an insane bunch of people :-).

would work well for the dwelling challenge if a bit out of the norm

The first one, but it has to be the winner! :) A little more rain would make it even better, Wendy (at least I assume that's you)

No wayyyy what a cute shot. How lucky was that? Or how patient? :-). I don't know if you could have toned down the light bulb a bit. It is what draws the eye the most.
