I already posted this photo together with its prototype back in April

and a few others :)

The star of this whole photo series is my mom. Way to go, mom!

We made them during the early months of the coronavirus lockdown, on the peak of the huge Internet craze to imitate or parody art pieces (mostly paintings and sculptures) without leaving your house. It started on Instagram, I think, as "Getty Art Challenge", but then was replicated by many other venues. If you have not seen it, check it out, there were some true masterpieces of creativity and humor there.

Love ALL these! In fact, I think I prefer some of the images more than the originals.

Of course not an exact replica, but not too far either in spirit, I thought. Both in Rembrandt's painting and here, her face is lighted by the light reflected off the pages.
sorry my comment was so terse. in the painting it seems like there is a light source coming directly at the subject from behind the painter. I noticed it most on the hands but you can also see it under the eyes. In your photo these areas are completely dark.

In the painting the main light source is also up high in front of the woman as it is in mine (look at her nose), so as I said, the light on the rest of the face is mostly from the book. And that's why the area under the book is completely dark. Yes, my light was more directional, that's why there are sharper shadows on hands, and also Rembrandt's model is holding her hands in a slightly different way, more towards the light source, that's an oversight. But on the other hand (no pun intended), at the time I did not overly tried to make it an exact replica.

Wow! I knew you must have had a true museum piece if you didn’t enter your other ribbon winner in this challenge and you certainly did not disappoint. I also think your photos are better than the original paintings! Congratulations!!

Wonderful model. I love this. Gave it a nice score and would have scored higher had her right hand been under the book cover . . . is that silly? No matter. A terrific result and my congratulations on the Blue.
