I wanted to do something in nature. I looked for pigeons on a bridge, but didn't find any. I thought of the line of ants I keep seeing around my house, but they were too spread out to be interesting.
Then I remembered a photo like this, I believe on DPC, a long time ago. I believe they were in the shape of a heart, or something like that.
So I put some honey on a white piece of paper.
It was amazing how quickly the ants found it!! It felt really creepy lying half on the grass, half on the sidewalk, photographing them. (I thought ant-level would be interesting. It wasn't. It was just a bunch of ant butts.) But then I got distracted. A large ant started picking off the small ants! it was gross and fascinating. The reason I said creepy lying on the sidewalk, because as I was lying there trying to get photos of an ant murdering smaller ants, I kept feeling things crawl over me... Sometimes it was an ant, sometimes it was just sweat dripping down. (heat index over 100), sometimes it was probably my imagination. But it still felt creepy crawly anyway!
Unfortunately, the ant murder photos didn't really turn out, but at least I got orderly ants out of the deal. :)
