 When I was a child (5 years old) my favorite story book was about a little boy named Gerald McBoing Boing who couldn't talk. All he could do was make sounds of things around him: horns, trains, automobiles, birds and other animals etc. The book is the story of how he was made fun of at school and the noises angered his father. Gerald ran away from home but was discovered by a radio show to do sound effects and he became famous!

I hadn't thought of the storybook for over 40 years but the memory came back to me and I looked though many used book stores to try to find the original book. I did some research and to my surprise I learned that the book was derived from a short cartoon that played in movie theaters throughout the country and won an Academy Award in 1952. The movie was produced by the production company that also produced Mr Magoo. They had bought the script from Theodore (Dr. Seuss) Geisal before he had become famous. I found a first edition copy of the book identical to the one that I had as a child (which I am holding in the picture). I was thrilled! Since that time I began collecting Gerald McBoing Boing Memorabilia. The cartoon was revived on TNT TV for a while. I have accumulated quite a bit from the original academy award winning film. It was fun for me to have the opportunity to document some of my collection for this challenge.

What a great story! Thanks for sharing it! It would have also been special in the “Getting to Know You” challenge! You conveyed this so well! You are definitely a man of many interests and talents!!! And in photography, you use them in such a delightful way!!!

i will look forward to reading those details after the challenge .. and i'm pretty sure you wont be hard to find .. as you will definitely be on the front page .. if not getting a ribbon .. i wonder if you love playing golf as much as you love reading dr. seuss .. ;)
