I am really floored by all the wonderful comments, but Sandy thank you so much to say that this is the best bird image you’ve seen on DPC. I really don’t think so.. I mean what about all those amazing images from Wendy and from Jake, and so many others on this site that I can’t think of at the moment. Actually humbles me.

I struggled choosing an image for this challenge. I shot over 400 photos - mostly of these Pied stilts, they are the cutest things to watch. We have a wonderful lake, that I had discovered only recently. I mean, I knew it was always there but I only ventured to take photos at this lake, which is only a couple of minutes drive from where we live, late last year. I’ve been going back there ever since. They have an amazing array of birdlife, but these Pied stilts are the best, I could stand and watch them all day long, but man have you tried to hold a camera with a zoom lens for too long, your back aches and arms tingle after a while.

Actually I just re-read Sandy’s comment and she didn’t say it was the best photo she had seen on this site but that she’s ever seen. What???

I’m frequently amazed by both your level of engagement here but also the quality of the images you produce- the way you can flip it from the conventional aesthetic to the avant garde and succeed with both is really impressive. Credit to you and for all of the other work you do.

This composition is really really beautiful. The gold colors in background is so nice that keep our eyes are hypnotized to the main subject. Pleasant feeling !!! Congratulation for the top 5 position

I really REALLY can not believe that this did not win side-by-side with Judi's! How can that be! It deserves to be! And I meant it about being one of the best bird images I've seen. I was so blown away by both yours and Judi's images. They are so similar. I showed them both to my hubby when we were looking at the entries, and he said, "Ummm... no offense but... they should win." I agree!

This is absolutely one of the most beautiful bird photos I've ever seen! There is another one similar to this in this challenge, and I love them both so much! Both of these images should win Red and Blue ribbons! I'm not voting in this challenge (because I have an entry in it, and I never vote on challenges I'm competing in), but I love both of these similar images so much, if they don't win 1st and 2nd, I will be shocked. Congratulations in advance!
