[Sep. 20th, 2018 10:13:59 PM]

I went outside repeatedly Monday and lay on my back on a beach towel under my zinnias - which are darned near 7 feet tall. The monarchs are migrating through our area and, while they are a bit skittish if I'm standing, they didn't even notice me once I got on the ground. I think I tried every lens I have, from telephoto (too long - could only focus on very tallest flowers) through dedicated macro (drove me nuts not to have any zoom control) to wide angle (I did get some nice ones but the butterflies were too little there for what I was after) to my good old original kit lens (18-70 mm)) which did just fine. Sky shifted from solid blue in the morning to having these lovely fluffy clouds in the afternoon. Best working light for me turned out to be late afternoon when I could lie in full shade (my eyes loved that!) but the blossoms and butterflies were in sunlight. Much fun, really. I shot on burst so you can only imagine how many files I had to go through!

Whoop, whoop, whoop . . . new personal best!

Way to go Nikki! Congrats on a new personal best, winning the blue, and capturing an absolutely magical photo! And here I was guessing it was accomplished with the flowers on a patio glass table top, but not so. Wow, nearly 7 feet tall zinnas; now that is a garden to get pleasantly lost in!!! Congrats again!

Stunning capture and unique point of view. This is one of the reasons I love DPC. It gives us an excuse to go out to our gardens, lie on our backs, gaze up at the puffy clouds, and, occasionally, capture magic. Congrats on the new PB, Nikki.

Absolutely beautiful- stunning realism but with all the wonder of a Children's book illustration. Congrats on the Blue!

Sometimes you capture a shot for a challenge that you know just isn't fair. This is one of those times.

This is a beautiful scene captured from a perspective that doesn't feel forced and makes me feel that I'm viewing it through my own eyes and not someone else's or a lens. Nice colors. Nicely done.

Awesome idea! Love the Monarch captured in mid-flight 'fluttering' from one flower and off to the next! I can see another Monarch's wing as it rests on another flower. Hmmm, if I had to guess how you accomplished this unique view it would be from under a glass tabletop looking up. Getting back to the photo - this is a wonderful cheerful image with rich colors and great details showing us a view one does not normally get to see! Great job!

Great timing, wondering how long you stood there to wait for this to happen. One of the better ones.
