Great detail, but it's very hard to tell if this shot was taken from the ground up

maybe not ground up, but i don't belive in ruling out for that, I mean thats what inspired it right. Very interesting, nice comp. The eyes are so dark, and creepy and there is that hint of a smile, the hair is fun,

Neat composition & lighting. Though it does seem a tad dark. Like it a lot though. Good job!

...but was daddy's camera on the ground?

Daring, but I don't know if it works. The blown out hair grabs all my attention, and the rest is tonally pretty flat. Good on you for taking a chance. Beautiful baby.

I like the photo but...there are not enough clues beyond the title to give you the impression she is looking down.

Just some simple out of focus background clues would have been helpful to the photo or maybe if she had hair that was more drapey (is that a word?)

Adorable subject! Left me wanting to see more of the face though.

I love the glint in the eye and how the hair is lit up by the sun, but I would prefer to see more of the face. Great concept!

Not normally a big fan of shots of peoples kids, however I feel this is a well taken shot, really captures the moment well.

nice pic but I don't think the hair gives enough of an impression of what direction everything is to each other.direction

I love how the eyes and cheeks indicate a big smile, even though it can't be seen.

I can't see her eyes, and while her fly-away hair is cool, her eyes are the part I really want to see. Between the dark eyes and the highlight on the hair, I keep getting pulled away from what is, to me, the most important part of a portrait. Would it have been possible to use a reflector or a piece of white card to get some light up on her face?

The light on the hair is VERY cute. The background is nicely non-distracting, and I think it is a good use of black and white. Just showing the eyes actually does work, because they're really very expressive. Nitpick: the top left corner seems a little bit overexposed.

Wispy hair is beautiful

IMO cropping the child's face weakened the photo. I don't get the "feeling" that the child is looking down at you or you're looking up. Without something in the photo to act as a point of reference, I'm left feeling the challenge wasn't met.
04/29/2002 09:31:00 PM
Nothing in the picture to show that we're actually looking upward
04/29/2002 07:32:00 PM
Very cute, though it doesn't represent ground up. With the angle, she is looking at you head on... not down. The background does not represent the ceiling either, it looks more like shades.
04/29/2002 05:42:00 PM
she might as well have been looking up at him, there isn't much sense of perspective in this shot...the black and white was a good choice
04/29/2002 03:30:00 PM
Not obvious that the person is looking down at the camera
04/29/2002 01:57:00 PM
Beautiful lighting, composition and expression on the childs face make this compelling. I would score it higher if it were obvious the camera is looking up.

Intensely sweet!! Nice catchlights in the eyes.. very twinkly! Not a good sense of "from the ground up", though...

Precious. Very nice

This is an interesting photo. I always admire the black and whites. My own tastes tell me that i would have tried to capture more of the face. My other issue is that I have no indication that I'm looking up other than the title of this photo...
04/29/2002 10:14:00 AM
The light catching the hair is very nice :). So are the smiling eyes. The composition is really interesting, but somehow not very pleasing to me... It's hard to say why.
04/29/2002 10:06:00 AM
Where's the whole face?
04/29/2002 08:37:00 AM
nice light cutting across just the hair - background is too cluttered though
04/29/2002 05:53:00 AM
Its a nice picture. But i don't see "fromt he ground up" in it.
04/29/2002 12:59:00 AM
Love the catch of sunlight in the hair.
